Buying an unwanted phone.

What precaustions can 1 tke to make sure the phone they buy isnt stolen or wont be subseuently restricted by the seller (by them selling it and then reporting it stolen)

Usually stolen phones are reported stolen and barred in the UK.
If it's face to face sale then get them to try it, call your home number or something to make sure it works and connects ok.
If it's on ebay or you can't use it to make a call and check then, i'd go off their feedback, it is rare that someone with 100% feedback would try and scam someone and sell something dodgy (obviously be wary if their rating is zero).
To stop them from reporting it stoel nafterwards, you can't really, but getting their full name, full address and a receipt would give you some comfort/ proof if they do try it on.
