Phone upgrade-time remaining on contract?

Hi,
My OH lost his phone yesterday
He rang vodafone today who told him he was eligible for upgrade from 3rd december, he would have to have an 18mo contract. His contract for the phone he had is up in June, and he thinks that the new contract will be added onto this existing one (making it 24months) whilst I thought the upgrade superseded the existing contract, so he would have an 18mo contract?
Can anyone clarify this for me?
Thanks

And this is the case for all networks, not only for Vodafone. Early upgrades are expensive.0 -
OK, thanks very much, that's a bit of a bummer
He may just have to cope with an older phone for a while. With a normal upgrade it supersedes though? 0 -
Normal upgrade is after the minimum term of the current contract expired, hence there is no anything to add/supersede.0

I have been told before I can upgrade, but when I have gone to leave, I can't because I am still in contract. It said on that page that you can upgrade in the last 90 days?0 -
Being able to upgrade is not the same as being able to leave without penalties.
I believe that if you upgrade in the last 90 days, the remaining days get added to the new contract too, but I am not sure.
I think the main difference of early upgrades is that you have to pay an extra "one-off cost".0 -
Hi there ,
I am due for an upgrade on my phones. I have always had a 12 month contract , although it has been harder and harder to get .This year I have been told no chance . 1 option I was told I can keep the length of contract but no Phone I also have discounts applied to the phone .
Has anyone else had any similar experiences this year i.e. no 12month contract / limit on the phone ?
Does anyone have an official line from vodafone ?0 -
Have to let you know what happened to me - O2 online sales staff said I could upgrade then said sorry didnt see that you mentioned having 8mths left of contract. So they wanted to charge me £81.25 + £10.50 next payment if i wanted to leave.
Then they back tracked and said they would honour sales patter but wanted £60 for the phone!
Anyway - went online to PHONES-4-U. Got the SAME Blackberry handset, same tarriff, 200 mins, 3000 texts 500mb internet - HANDSET FREE (O2 wanted £60 for handset). £50 automatic cashback. Also got an additional £70 for leaving O2 early to go with them.
So it pays to shop around!0 -
