hi all

i firmly believe i have had my identitiy stolen! i got a letter yesterday from HMRC sending me this years tax code for working at the manchester central board of jewish education...i dont work there, if fact i dont work at all. im severly disabled and have a hard time getting the loo nevermind to manchester everyday. i phoned up HMRC and in formed them of this and they r gonna look into it.

believing that my identity has been stolen i also phoned all the benefit agencys im involved with along with the police my bank and cancled all my credit cards.

what im getting paranioded about now is that it will be miss recorded by the beneift agencies and my money stopped, i know that they would of received this info at some point cos they all share so im hopeing ive done the right thing by telling them as it would of looked suspisious if i had just left it but cant help thinking of some of the horror stories ive heard from this board and others.

has anyone had the same experiance? how did it work out? just wanna prepare myself for the worst. i have got a little savings so could get by for a few weeks should the worst happen but im a worrie wart at the very best of times lol.

one think i forgot to add, i tried to research this board of jewish education and it dosent apper to exsist, it has no internet foot print so i got in touch with a jewish school in manchester thinking it must be some sort of governing body and they had never heard of it. they gave me the number for some jewish governing body in london that has records of all jewish companys in the uk and they had no record of it either. really got me worried

Maybe they just sent you the letter in error?!? don't you think you may have over reacted slightly?

no, it had my full name including my middle name that i never use, my address and my national insurance number on it.

Your benefits should not be stopped. You need to contact the credit reference agencies and see is there is anything fraudulent there. If you have had your ID taken you can add a marker on your credit profile. However, I would wait to see what the HMRC investigation states before jumping to conclusions.

If I were you, I would contact all 3 (experian, equifax & credit expert)
I only ever had credit expert and was convinced I owed more cash out then the file was telling me so I signed up to the other 2 and found that not all companies will leave a mark on all 3 files just 1/2 etc

Credit Expert and Experian are one and the same!

OP, I agree with Lady_gaga, you are overreacting. If HMRC have allocated someones tax records against your own in error it will show your full name, address etc. The board you refer to does exist, they run the Centre for Jewish Education. You really have caused yourself no end of hassle needlessly.

i would be sooner be over causious than get ripped off bob, if you have found them could u post me the link to them as neither i or the UJIA (dont ask me wot it stands for ) could find any record of them.
