virgin installation

Hi all

Looking to hear your experiences, please.

I currently have virgin in lounge but have recently upgraded and will be getting an additional box upstairs.

My question is re cabling etc, what is the norm? Will they run cable along lounge into hall, upstairs, along landing, into bedroom, or just take up outsideand drill thru upstairs?
Anything I can do to prep and help before installation?

What are your experiences?
Thanks

    It depends on they type of house,if it's a normal house with a front garden,then the's a box (The ETB)on the outside wall, they'll run a spur line off the splitter in there to where the new box is going to go.Where it enters the room,they'll fit an Isolator box like the white box on the wall in the lounge that your current cable box connects to,and then thru the attic if needed.
    If the's no outside box & the splitters inside the house,then they'll split it there & again run it outside.
    If you run a cable the way you suggested,then that can cause problems due to the number of bends & the overall run length of the cable.

    Isolator;
    Cable TV Isolator

    Outside box;
    External Termintaion Box

    As for what you can do,move furniture away from the wall around where the second box is going,take any pictures or ornaments down & if you have them,put some dist sheets down if it's wet & muddy.
  • Would be great if they did it outside as you say. Did think indoors would be a bit of a pest - a lot of twists and turns. Thank you

    Tell them that's how you'd like the cable ran,the customer decides where the cable runs,not the crew.
    I always used a feature of the house like a drainpipe when running the cable,by running it behind the pipe,it's less likely to be vandalised or pulled off by little fingers...Going outside is the quickest easiest route,did the old installer bit for NTL for a few years before moving over to the service side.
    The timeslots they give you are normally from 8am-1pm & 1pm-6pm but just be aware they might be a little late,as you never know how big a job will be until you get there.I've been to installs that the salesman has told the customer it'll take 2 hours & we've been there half a day on it.Longest one install I did on the 2 man crew took over a day & a half.
    The guy who comes out to you should only be a 1 man crew tho.
  • Thank you, spike.

    Never sure whether to leave them to it or suggest what I would like but following you're advice I'll have a look at the best/most discreet route up the outside wall and see what they think

    Thank you

    Thank you

    I had Virgin installed on Saturday. They guy took a look at the house, suggested the best route (up the front wall and into the bedroom) but asked if I was Ok with it before doing anything.
