Thank you, lots of great advice.
  • Compatible costs for the T1291 - T1294 set (T1295) are among the highest for Epson compatibles

I am a seller of compatible inks and the T1281 and T1295 ranges have been difficult to make and are now difficult to get hold of due to high demand, hence the higher prices.

One supplier told me that they are expecting a small price drop in the next few weeks as things settle down.

Good to hear that the price should drop. I expect the high demand is a result of the reductions on most of the new SX printer range which take those cartridges.

Thanks, do you also sell compatable ink for the canon MG5250 (I`ve unpacked both printers but am still undecided) compared to the HP one they both feel very flimsy. Decisions, decisions...
  • We do sell them for the MG5250, about £5 each, dropping to just over £15 for any mix of four. The more you buy, the cheaper they become.

Modern printers are quite flimsy in the 'cheaper' ranges, hence keeping the prices down.

Just be aware that many Epson printers have a 'page counter' which stops printing after a specified number of pages. Then you have to get it 'serviced' which is often more expensive than buying a new printer. A new printer where compatible cartridges are possibly not yet available so you have to buy the Epson inks initially. Epson don't like compatible cartridges and do everything they can to stop them being made or delay production where possible by making them as complicated as possible (on the little computer chip in them).

Canon seem to have far more customers willing to buy Canon original inks and therefore many of the above problems don't happen to them so much. The only complaints I have heard about Canon is where the product is faulty on arrival but this happens to all manufacturers, though rare. Canon tend to be a bit more expensive to run, even the Canon compatible inks are more expensive than the Epson ones but you might be able to keep the printer longer as they don't have 'page counters'.

    Hopefully that helps.

Thank you so much for that advice. I`m swaying towards the Canon. There are compatible inks around for about £10 that say they are chipped, if i can get a good deal on orginals will use them as well. Just don`t want any grief when I put them in. My Hp was a bit hit and miss - sometimes it liked them sometimes it didn`t! Suppose at £50 its cheap enough to replace in a couple of years if I need to.

Just wanted to say thank you all for your advice. I decided to keep the Canon MG5250 after all it was a great price. I also wanted to say that I managed to set it up and link it to this desktop all on my own!! which for me was a real surprise. (just got to link it to the laptop tomorrow) I have also printed, copied, scanned and duplex printed on it, the quality seem really great...far superior to the Kodak Hero 7.1 which cost 3 times as much. The duplex printing is a doddle, even after 18 months I never managed to get my HP to do this.

Enjoy the rest of the evening. Thanks again.

I`m still smiling..this canon is a doddle to work and use compared to my very tempremental HP. The bonus being my desktop actually recognises it! Quality is good even on quick draft printing.
