craig777 wrote:That reminds me... you can make a cheaper alternative to Spag Bol by using Corned Beef... it's very tasty, I learnt this from my Italian in-laws.
This sounds a useful tip.
Sorry to be a bit dim though........how is the corned beef used? Cut into little chunks, crumbled? Do you cook a first and drain the fat? (trying to be low fat at the mo).
I haven't yet found a good use for corned beef, apart from sliced, but always seem to have a tin just in case!!0 -
The corned beef falls apart anyway so I would just cube it roughly.
I use it for corned beef hash whcih I make with spuds, onion, carrot and corned beef in a frying pan. Then transfer it to oven dish, make a few wells in the top and crack eggs into the wells. Bake in the oven until eggs are cooked and serve with baked beans.0 -

On my weekly/month meal plan thank you!
And as another poster said I think its something mine will eat (but 2 of them minus the eggs :rotfl: )Grocery Challenge. £400. - £35.22 + £19.80 + £109.01 = £164.03
Other spends (Clothes Luxuries etc)£11.97 + £1.19 + £7.36 + £69.00 + £38.50 + £5.50 + £23.00 +£2.00 = £158.52:shocked::sad:0 -
Macaroni cooked then drained and put back in the saucepan with grated cheese to melt the cheese slightly, then served. Everyone seems to love this one from older member of the family to the younger ones.0

I made the above recipe a couple of weeks ago. Was a bit sceptical as you put baked beans and tinned toms into the bottom bit with the veggies. But it was gorgeous and made loads. I recon the whole pie cost less than £1.50 to make and would feed about four people.0

HariboJunkie has basically answered this for me... it doesn't matter how you add it to the pan, as it will always break down into a course paste-like substance once it starts cooking.
And yes, of course, you can cook it first and drain off any excess fat before carrying on with your Spag Bol.0 -
