  • OP. You said you're on JSA and have to do this for free.

I'm beginning to see exactly why you dont have a proper job. Be honest, you really dont want to actually have the hassle of going to work do you?

Currently writing a report on the perception of disability in the workplace, focusing on people that want to work despite genuine barriers to employment.

    Oh thank you for that!

Meant the comeback by the way, realised how that read without an explanation. Are you involved with Remploy at all?

Do you not think though that sometimes ....
Work Placement = P-take by employers = poor attitude from paid employees towards "Placee"?
If the job was on a more formal footing and the OP was paid fairly for his time and effort, I imagine the situation would be better all round.

The ones I have worked with have only wanted to help the 'placee' and have changed shift patterns to ensure they are mentored as much as possible throughout the process.

And what do you do that's more than what I do?

    A full day's work.

I think you need to look at what you're having to for breakfast - are you having enough? And couldn't you make yourself a sandwich or some hummus (very easy, very nutritional) for a snack during the day? You don't need a full sit down meal, you can have that when you get home.

As I said, "sometimes" - and this may be one of those times, hard to say unequivocally. You have seen only good experiences, I have seen/ heard of only bad, and I do worry that there will be more people treated badly than well in the current climate.
If things are as the OP says, then he is not in a good place and it feels better to help him address the issues rather than malign him for it.

JSA = getting money for free from government. At least, do a work placement to make some attempt to get some work skills.
  • Oh agree if that is the issue. I do get the feeling and it is only a personal gut feeling, no evidence that if OP acts in the real world, contrary & argumentative as on here then maybe it is not the fault of the placement provider (employer) or employees. There are bad placements out there and yes, I am lucky with the employers I work with.

BUT - the benefit should be equal and mutual, not free/hugely "subsidised" labour (with of course, none of the usual protection afforded), I'm also not clear on what "skills" that he didn't already possess, he is actually gaining? To be strictly mathematical and horribly pedantic, the OP has fulfilled his financial obligation after working about 10.5 hours.... and also I assume has to cover costs of travel and the meals - which started this whole thread.
    Just sayin'
