T-Mobile the same as Orange?

I've seen great offers online for T-mobile, much cheaper than Orange.

My question is, because they "share" a signal, if I buy a T-mobile phone I'm basically getting the same benefits as Orange coverage wise?

Almost - you can share the phone signal easily enough, so that will be a benefit. However they're still struggling a bit with sharing data networks (3G), so if that's a concern I'd choose the one most relevant to you.

They will soon be sharing data effectively, and you can manually set your phone to switch to the best network in your area, so it's not a huge problem if you go for a different one.

And yes, if you speak to Orange they will admit to being part of the same company and may well match T-Mobile's offer.

  • 3g sharing is being rolled out across the country. I am on T-Mobile and I can get an Orange 3G signal (I live in South West) - on my HTC Desire it is called "3G T-Mobile Orange". Over the next few months, 3g sharing will available across the whole country.

Orange is very expensive compared to T-Mobile and I don't see the benefits of their overpriced packages to be honest. I can select "T-Mobile Orange" on my phone and it will only use an Orange signal, so the network is certainly not the premium! In my experience, T-Mobile offers better coverage anyway.
