You don't need a new car... because they depreciate quicker and are not nessesserily more reliable. I bought my 05 Reg at 10 months old... and I would consider any car under 3 years old new! But would never buy a BRAND new one... they depreciate 25% instantly!
I know- before I go on I will admit that cars are one of my big weaknesses
In my *defence* the current one was pre-registered (as was the last one ... and the one before I got £9k of the list price and the one before that was pre-reg too:o:o).
It'd been in the showroom for several months (0 miles) and the new reg had come out ..... I did get £2.5k off the price compared with a "new" new one so I've (as yet) not really lost much money on it.
I do always intend to keep them for a while but I always seem to get offered good prices to change them earlier than I intend to and, similar to the current one, as I've paid much less than retail price, I've not really lost that much money on them (whereas I would do if I kept them another year or two).
However, this one will be staying ...... (repeat after me: you do not NEED a new car .... you do not NEED a new car) - honestly, it will be!:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

WOW this thread is quiet lately, on th positive side that means i caught up quickly. I have been missing this place but so far February has been a very challenging month 2012 is not being very friendly so far:( and i see im not the only one feeling this. Sorting out my money has prompted me to really sort out and organise my home this means that my home is very choatic at the moment but hopefully shouldn't stay that way for long and all the hard work should be worth it when everything has a place and is easy to find.
I have been panicking about how much my electric and gas will be due to the freezing weather. However when I compared the bills from the last couple of years I discovered that I have saved around £50 from my winter bill this year and £30 on my summer bill which is good. Brought a great new shelving unit which works as much needed storage space and looks nice, got it from a second hand shop for £25, they delivered, new It would have cost us at least £150! Also popped into hobbycraft..........never a safe place for me.......but after a good rummage in the sales bins I picked up some great baragins several of which can be turned into pressies.
The monthly meal planner is working great.........thanks JulieG......and the batch cooking is slowly becoming a good habit, I think my new favourite phrase is now can I freeze it
This week I will be sending off for our credit reports, haven't done it for awhile as I normally hate looking at them but its time to just brave it out so I can see what other work needs to be done and check the information.
I have managed to finished off 2 unfinished stitching pieces in the last week, suddenly just got a burst of energy and it stops me picking at my hands which are very dry in this weather.
If we are confessing things then mine will be that I am spending quite a bit on my OH this Valentines. For many years we have basically done without due to the debts and this will be our first DF valentines so I am going to spoil him. I know the money could be better spent but on this occassion I will let my heart rule my head.........the only problem is how do I get the balloons in without him seeing them?:D What are the rest of you planning?Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Nicely done Mort!
I am pleased to be able to say that I am single this Valentines and happy to stay that way for some time.
I'm afraid I'm with Rising on the car front, I luurvve my cars and they really are my big money weakness, and I have to admit to having thrown far more money down that route than I really want to think about.
The garage invited me to go and look at some special deals for people who have just paid off their latest car loans the other week and I really struggled with not going for a peek - I know it is bad, but they are so beautiful & shiny & smell so good!
I am determined to hang onto mine, it will be 3yrs old in May, for at least 2 more years, but it is going to be tough and require some real self-discipline, and then I must must must not get a brand new one again - I know that is where most of the money goes down the drain straight away.
SOT xDebt Free since Nov 11 (ish) (except the £118000 mortgage) as at Jan 2013 but still hanging around DFW as I need to Stay On Track.

Lol - my teenage years are a wee bit behind me sadly! So no excuses, just df madness!
Mid-term hols here and a lovely day. Hoping to get in a walk and lunch out somewhere. (No dinner money to pay this week, so will use that!)
Scotland got hammered by Wales in the 6 Nations! (Luckily my children are half-Welsh!)
Given myself a bit of a stern talking to and a wee wander round the debt-free board soon got things into perspective. So I may be a bit bored 'cos things are running smoothly - would I rather go back to the days of dreading the post, being bombarded by calls, etc?? Time to get a grip! I will have a wee look and see if I can smooth things out even more - but I really need to start enjoying the peace!
Valentine's Day very cheap spend for me. Happily single at present, concentrating on bringing up the children for now.
Anyway - thanks all for your words of wisdom, assorted confessions and virtual support. Off to try and rouse one of the said children. A teenage day doesn't seem to start until after 12 noon in the holidays!! (Sure I was never like that!)

Ohhhhhh, I'm so glad I'm not alone in this weakness:D - maybe we can try to stop each other giving into temptation ....
I have a feeling there [STRIKE]will be [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]may be[/STRIKE] (will stick with the original thought) will be another weak moment when we get to the next plate change as it's the one when you usually find the best deals .... esp if you leave it to just before the month end and the garage only has (literally) a handful of cars to sell to meet their target (= big bonus)..... (yup, I really do know all the tricks - my uncle was a car dealer:)).
Sam I've been having problems since the new masthead/site came out - the site seems really slow & I do get chucked off a lot:(. I've now reverted to copying my posts before hitting "submit" and at least I'm not having to start again.....Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I just do not understand the car thing... come to think of it I don't get the shoe and handbag thing either...! Or the clothes thing...!
And I definitily DO NOT get the Valintines day thing...
DH will not get a card, and neither of us acknowledge it at all... I won't go in one of the charity shops right now because it's window if full of hearts and red stuff! But don't think me unromantic, because I celebrate the anniversary of the first date, our engagement and our wedding with my DH... and I always hand make him a card and cook him a special meal...!
I just hate commercialism and consumerism (did I get the right words? Did I spell them right?)
LOL I could be the Valintine bah humbug scrouge
Ps. Since the new masthead I have been having problems, loosing posts, not being able to log in... and worst of all...
