I have not received my pass book yet from Nationwide as I have changed my savings account to a mortgage account and this could mean better rates on my mortgage. I am waiting patiently but you know how it is; its addictive once you start putting little payments onto a debt or saving and you want to keep going. So I have like £20 left over from this week which I want to switch over into my savings before pay day.....but no passbook means no new account number.....boo.....its truley evident I have no patience at all.
Very like me - if I don't put it away immediately, I spend it ... but if it's in a pot / savings account, I don't touch it unless absolutely essential or it's been budgeted for!Worried about the job application; feel like I am going for a job that is truley out of my reach salary and skills wise. But I worked hard to evidence all that I have learnt through my previous positions and how these could be adapted. I just want an interview really; I shine much better face to face that on paper. Just have to be patient....again.....!
The total opposite of me here tho':) - I'm good on paper and useless at interviews. Fingers crossed you do get one but if not, at least you're trying and ask for some feedback for what they felt was missing so you can try to address it for the next time.
Being with my DS today has been lovely. As I work full time I only get a short time in the evenings in the week and then usually a sunday as on a Saturday he is often out with his other grandparents or my mum. My mum has an allotment and enjoys spending her time there and DS enjoys it just as much!
Awwww Sam, have a lovely day together .....
Have finished "playing" with the spreadsheet - it took much longer than I thought (over an hour) as had to add an extra row and the formulas mucked up (one was showing as red = overspent, when it wasn't) and took me ages to sort.
Still to check the budgeting pots ....
Sam's also reminded me that I need to sort out my car - we're going on a training course at work early next week and I'm playing taxi to a few colleagues .... don't think they'd manage to get in the back atm as it's got all my winter survival kit in it. It desperately needs a wash but had been putting off as it was due a service (and they always wash/hoover it) but I've had to put it off as it was the same day as the training course. Mmmmm have been putting off doing it myself as hate getting water on the drive if there's a chance it'll freezer overnight (and turn it into a skating rink:eek:).

So Eliza loved church, was awake through a lot of the service, just looking around and paying attention. She slways woke up in church
She got her blessing during communion, and got fussed over by everyone
Rising i do that, travel to farmfoods every few months, add in the oriental market.
SOT there is a thread on Old Style, which veg is good and bad depends on the individual. I buy mixed veg, sliced carrots, garden peas, sweetcorn, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers and mushrooms. Mushrooms are only good in meals, not anything else. Brocolli and cauliflower should be steamed for best results. Peppers are the best in anything
Sam old style is the best place to learn about batch cooking and money saving on billing out food. Lentils and dried beans are you friends, as is veg

Afternoon everyone:)
DS1 fever finally broke last night and he actually got a couple of hours sleep without fever dreams, though he is now relating his bad dreams to his room and doesn't want to sleep there. His autism certainly makes life interesting:D He actually ate some breakfast today and kept it down and was able to walk without support so hopefully he is on the mend. He won't be going to school tomorrow though as he just needs to rest and get some strength back.
Due to my weekend being completely home bound and off list:rotfl: i needed to do something to help me feel better so counted all my change again and pre-bagged for the trip to the bank next week.........sometimes i really worry about myself:o but handling real money, even if it is just coppers, helps ground me:o
Spent quite awhile on the ISA threads yesterday but has left me more confused, I hate feeling stupid
RE coursework. I was in the middle of a MA in education when I left work. After doing my degree over 10 years ago the work load was a shock to the system. I have always done some type of course every year but nothing to that level and whilst I enjoyed the challenge it was very stressful fitting it all in. So when I left work I also put a hold on the MA, just felt I needed a break, only have 30 credits and a dissertation to complete but the space has helped me look at the course with fresh eyes. Not sure when i will start it up again, maybe later in the year. In the meantime I am looking at random courses at local colleages/adult education centre. I love to learn and I am going to to the oppertunity of being at home to maybe have a go at something I wouldn't normally have time for, plus should be a way to get out and meet more people. Of course i will be doing as many free courses/tasters as possible..........very MSE:D
JulieG I just want to say WOW you had a wonderfully organised and busy Saturday and Little Eliza certainly seems to be a little angel:) Yay to the refund, as you say unexpected refund s are the best, I got so excited this week when I won that £10, so unexpected and VERY welcome, OH said i should use it to treat myself and i did........i put it straight into our savings......a fab treat:rotfl:
Rising I do a monthly shop at FF. It has some great offers and its the only place OH gets our toilet roll from........cheap but soft enough, and hes very particular. It also sells quite a selection of veggie food again normally a lot cheaper than other supermarkets and they do fab lolly selections, which is normally the only bit the boys are interested in:D It is out in town and we normally don't get time to go there so it does require some planning to fit the shop in but worth it, plus theres an Ic*land and a couple of charity shops nearby:DSuccess means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. QueenB so glad DS is getting better now
I also like to learn (I have 52 professional qualifications) I worked for the MOD and had a boss who let me have an afternoon a week to go to the training centre. But after going to Uni a few years back... all I can say is 'never again' ! I'll stick to short courses... which are the ones which get me my jobs anyway.
Eliza is very good... but she has her moments, normally when we're trying to cook dinner... when I was pregnant she was always quiet all day... active all evening. She's the same now... she sleeps in the crib so nice as we got things done. By 5pm everything was done and she was awake and needing our attention. This is why we did so much, because she wants attention after work... and we end up not getting food! Definitely all about planning ahead.
Oh, and DH is great at sharing the cooking or Eliza to help get things done, which makes a world of differenceWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Working in education most of my courses where paid for or at least part paid for, but that also meant they related mainly to the job and whilst that was helpful workwise it also meant I got a bit bored and craved something a bit different. Even the MA, which is fascinating and certainly worth doing for future employment, is not really the MA i wanted, but at least the dissertation will be done on an area i have personally picked. I want to do a course about something completely different maybe reflexology or a new language. I also want to do a refresher in sign language as I mainly teach children with Special needs and disabilities.......all my experience with DS1 opened up a new avenue for me, before that I was just focused on being a History teacher. I do need to learn to drive, I have been putting it off for years:D but I think this is the time/year but now i just have to try and fit the cost of the lessons into my already tight budget:(
My OH was the same, very hands on both as a father and round the house, plus Ive i have said previously he was a house husband for awhile and did all the kiddy clubs whilst I was at uni. Sometimes he was the only man there but he has such a sweet nature that he never found it difficult to fit in........unlike me sometimes:D It really helps to have a OH who is hands on.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. I hope for you do finish your MA. You should learn German, you can get great cd sets with clubcard coupons. I've been trying to teach the boys
My DH looked after everything for the last 9 months, I was so poorly I was bed ridden and he worked full time, managed the house, cooked (many times 2 meals as I was too sick to eat most things) he shopped, looked after DS and did afterschool activity runs. I could barely get a shopping list together... took me days! I could go on all day about how amazing he is. You are right about it being amazing having that. So many people don't.We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I will finish the MA just need a break, TBH I have become very cynical and disillusioned with the present education system and the MA actually just reaffirmed my unease. So this will be an interesting year, though at present I am just enjoying being a SAHM that i haven't really thought about much else careerwise. I already have qualifications in German, French and Italian, though i get so little time to use them anymore that refresher courses would be good. I taught all my kids the basics of these 3 languages as i really believe languages are very important in todays global society. Even DS1 who has speech problems can recognise French (but struggles with speaking it) and he is learning both Spanish and German at school. He is at a fantastic school for children with learning difficulties but the school never limits the childrens learning, they follow the basic curriculum and can take GCSEs if able plus get all sorts of other wonderful experiences, its all about enrichment. I do have a set of Finnish language CDs so I may put that on my list:D
Spent part of today organising my weekly to do chart which lists housework/chores daily tasks to try and focus me more as i really need to get really organised and there is some decorating to do so hopefully if I get into a better routine more things will get done. Also helps to clear my mind. Im going to attempt a monthly meal plan for Feb next Sunday and shopping list, rather than the weekly one we usually do.
Off to make dinner.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash

Wow, you're like the superwoman of languages!!! You should be so proud. And DS1 school sounds amazing, it must be so nice to have that support.
I have a chore list, it works wonders as everyone knows what is needed (DS has his own section to make sure he's got everything for school etc) and I find it means I'm always on top of the washing
We all know I do the monthly menu plan and food shop... saves so much time and effort once done.
Good luck with both xWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Someone in this thread (sorry I can't remember who:o) said they where going to have a look around this site and read sections they haven't read before. When I read it I thought what a great idea, normally with limited time I get stuck in a thread rut
so had a meander round today and read the HM beauty treatment thread which has made me decide on two things 1) Make a list of all the products we have in the house 2) attempt to make one or two HM products which if any good can then be added to my list of HM gift ideas. Does anyone on here make their own products.
Plus also decided I am going to learn a new skill each month. This month I am making candles, so far made a gel type one and tomorrow I am going to try some beeswax candles. I think next month will be mastering my slow cooker........is that a skill???????
All of this should hopefully keep me entertained and make for a cheaper crimbo.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash

Definiately!
I'm needing to learn how to use mine better .... have made a fantastic beef casserole today but have had pot luck with other things in the past.
I tried making Chilli in it once and it wasn't a patch on how I usually make it. Chicken just seems to go really dry for some reason so I'm obviously doing something wrong!
If it stays OK for the next month (fingers crossed), I'll start bringing stuff out my winter emergency stockpile back into use - I have 4 weeks supply of breakfasts/lunches/dinners... all capable of being cooked on a camping stove, as well as toiletries, cleaning stuff etc. (In my defence, we are pretty rural here - small Co*op which runs out of bread etc by lunchtimes normally and there were no deliveries for over 3 weeks last year. It doesn't stock anything like Lactofree or wheat free stuff - the nearest sm is an 18 mile round trip .... on horrible hilly twisty roads & not something I want to do if there's loads of snow around).
Well, must go & get on ... have put the water on so it should be hot enough for a nice soak now!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
