Wit woo! Gorgeous!
No you don't need her, but I can sure see why she caught your eye.
I've been invited to a "special event" at my garage next weekend. I have said no as I know i would be tempted and I cannot risk getting those ideas in my head yet!
SOT xDebt Free since Nov 11 (ish) (except the £118000 mortgage) as at Jan 2013 but still hanging around DFW as I need to Stay On Track.

Rising - you know what to do (or rather what you definately have NOT to do!!)
Spent an extremely happy afternoon redoing the budgets for tax year 2012/13.
Got my tax credits finalised and new award notice. On the plus side it was really straightforward (I only called them last Monday) and they have already amended my payments. On the not so plus side, they were able to do it all within the week, so as far as I can work out I won't be getting any balancing payment
I also received my annual increment in April, so was awaiting final tc figures to revamp the budget - endless hours of wonderful entertainment. What if I do this?? What if I cut that?? You guys know what I mean.
Been a super-expensive year so far with the replacement of my car, (old car repairs), loads of school trips etc. My emergency fund is still below my comfort level, but all being well I anticipate it being back where it was by the 1st June.
Here's one for you all tho'. I gave the (private) seller of the car a cheque on the 17th April. I'll spare you the exact details, but it was for an '04 plate VW Polo SE, low mileage, so you can guess the value yourselves. However, (and I've just checked online again), the cheque still hasn't been presented and I'm not sure what to do?
To be clear, I've no intention of wriggling out of paying for the car or anything. The cash is sitting in my seperate cheque account - just don't know whether to call her or what? What would you do?
Also on the plus side I've managed to turn my heating off completely for the first time this year!! Unreal. Hope we get an Indian summer to compensate for the wet, windy winter.
Have a good evening all and welcome to all new posters.

Yup .... the one in the showroom was the most fantastic blue *sigh* - def need a lottery win tho .... she costs more than a years' salary  *sigh*
Chuckling at the garage event ...... I get invited to them fairly often too and it's a real "I'll go" / "no I won't" every time as I just can't be trustedbackinbusiness wrote: »Here's one for you all tho'. Thanks BiB for the stern words ..... I can dream
Bit of an odd one about the cheque as most people would want to get it paid in ASAP - does the seller have your tel no so they could call if they've misplaced it (but would be odd - although some people aren't as careful as those of us on here :rotfl:)?
mmmm difficult one - I'd maybe leave it until the end of the month and contact them.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hey Rising.
We live in a small community. The seller works with my ex (with whom I am on good terms).
I work at the school the seller's daughters attend, so she knows where to find me.
It is weird tho' isn't it. I would have forgone my lunch break to hot-foot it to the bank the very same day
Will wait 'til the month end and see what happens.
How is the "4 legs good" beast?

It's been so long since i've been here,... and I don't really have time right now either
My solictor thinks 3-5 weeks and we'll be in our new house! My mortgage is now sorted and we've just a few outstanding queries from the vendors and we'll be ready for exchange.
If we don't exchange by the end of June then we won't be in, unpacked and have the flat handed back before our holiday... and when we get back DH is going away for 1-2-3-4 weeks (we have no idea how long he'll be away for...)
On the plus side I got Eliza 6 lovely fisher price toys and a semi ring for her to sit with for £4 today
She's now over 4 months and is such a smily happy little thing... she does more then an average 6 month old... and has weaned herself! But not onto purees (she doesn't like them) but normal food... she even eats granary bread sandwichs, cucumber, tomato, raw onion, cheese, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts.... you name it... today she had pea soup, and tonight she'll have curry and rice. I won't let her eat meat yet though!
She's poorly right now, teething, growth spurt, a cold and her jabs... so she's not doing well at all
Money wise things are ticking along, my spreadsheet isn't being utilised as well as it could be though. But eating out of the freezer is saving me a fotune, so we are treating ourselves more with picnics and treats at lunchtime with DS
QueenB I'm sorry to hear you are not doing well x
Rising how is the dog? And NO you should not buy a car... you don't NEED it, and if you did you could pay £2k for a decent runner! Think of all the emergency savings you could have if you put the money aside instead... and in 5 years there will be enough money to buy a car outright, and it would be YOURS and not on finance!
SOT wishing you luck with your studies
Sam any news on the job front? We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
I think it really helps to hear from people who have cleared their debts, I find its motivating and gives optimism
:Tbackinbusiness wrote: »I totally identify with this - essentially it's a good thing I suppose, but we do need to allow ourselves the odd treat now!
I also worry about creating the wrong impression - you know, being smug? But it's not about that - it's about moving forward and continuing to share information and good ideas.
BiBDebt Apr 2011 - a staggering £65171, ...so a 20 year plan ahead just like a 2nd mortgage!!!
Its going down, now £40k :happyhear0 -
hey folks - what fab weather! hope you are all enjoying it MSE style! :j
squinky- emergency fund: I agree with Rising theres one for stuff that will breakdown, so a reasonable sized one and then one for if circumstances change. which I think on this forum I have seen 3 months bills being suggested.
Rising - STEP AWAY FROM THE GORG CAR!!! :rotfl:
BiB - mmm strange one! Would the seller feel comfortable enough to speak to you about it? all I can think is that its been lost and if so maybe she is plucking up the courage to come and speak to you about it! I would give it a few weeks and see what happens!
JG - hope your able to exchange by June and E is feeling better soon x
Newchapter - are you DF yet or on your journey? all the best anyway.
off to stare at my budget spreadsheet again!!

I should also start rebuilding the emergency fund then, so any idea what the average emergency fund should be?!...
That's a subject we have discussed before on this thread and it has been asked in other parts of the site as well. It's a tricky one and there is not much of a consensus either.
Personally I am aiming for 3 months bills and will then start overpaying the mortgage and will continue to build up to 6 months bills but at a slower pace. It's going to take months!
