Three Upgrade ... Good Choice?

Hi guys.

I've been with three for the last year, and just had a phone call tonight, and was offered the N73 mobile on an 18 month contract, where I will receive £180 worth of credit a month. To me, this sounds very much like the T-Mobile contract, and I had a look on the Three website, but I couldn't see anything of this kind.

The call was actually from Three direct. The offered me this at a monthly rate of £25.26 p/m, but this will be going up to £35 p/m soon (apparantly).

Now, I still have two months left on my current contract, and so am wondering whether I would be best to sign up for this now while I can get it at this, or would I be best to wait for another month or so? Also, I was wanting to go for the Nokia N95 when it's released, but this isn't likely to be out until March time anyway, and would it be available on such a cheap contract?

Also, are Three fobbing me off with a cheapish contract, and should I just ask for this on a cheaper price plan?

Cheers,

David

  • this is not an offer from the 3 network. they are only selling 3 contracts. 3 probably will call you when your contracts is in the last couple days of the contract but so will all these other companies. be doubly careful who you upgrade with
  • if you wish to upgrade you can go to a 3 store( many are based in superdrug store). the staff will be very helpful and knowledgable

Well, I'd say it was from the three company themselves, as the number which called me was the 07782333333 which is the customer services number. When I said about waiting until I'd had time to think about it, I asked where I needed to call, and he said the three customer services number. So I'd have thought this would have been from Three directly. He also knew details about my last bill, i.e. number of minutes called and texts etc.

You will get £180 worth of credit a month? Each month, are you sure you got that right?

dial 333 on your 3 handset, that will defo get to 3.

my minimum 12-month contract was coming up, so i foned 3 on 333 telling them i want to cancel because owning a mobile is expensive, base rate is up, mortgage up, CSA after me, blah, blah, blah. so the guy i spoke to said he can do a deal for me. i said i was happy with my handset and not bother about changing it.

the deal was for talk and text 600 (500min talk and 100 text) with no handset. work out to be £5/month on a 12-months contract :)

(9-months 1/2 price, so from £30/month to £15/month and a credit note of about £160. no need for cashback, etc)

i wouldnt take any deal that is offered long before your contract is due to expire. three have changed their rules since you took out your pay monthly so now any changes you wish to make to your tariff i.e lowering it will incur a £25 charge.... so if you were on a £45 tariff, to drop it to a £35 will cost you £25, and to drop it a month later to a £25 tariff, the same charge. its a bit naughty of them to be honest!!
if you are looking at moving away from three, id look at how your signal is.. if its changed i.e got a bit better/worse over the last monty or so. three now run off orange sim cells, so if your signal has improved look at orange for your next deal.
back to OT though, DONT take these deals offered over the phone, all they need is for you to say 'yes' and you are tied into an 18 month contract. most people dont realize until its too late ( i.e 14 day cancellation period)

i asked for a 12-months contract and got it. when my current contract is up, it will be moved to the new contract, therefore no £25 surcharge. my new contract is on a different tariff.

when you fone 3 for a renewal deal, make sure you all the the relevant questions, write it down and do the maths.

reason why i renew with 3 is no need to keep tab on bills for cashback :D

So would this contract be with 3 or with t-mobile then??

I can't understand why they would offer a t-mobile offer?

Hmmm, dunno whether to go for it, or wait for a new offer from them closer to the time...
