Wheelchair access 4WD???

Renault Scenic 4x4? Honda CR-V or HR-V?
although could be a bit big.0 -
Well the 4x4 they liked was their old Panda but that was years ago. It was perfect as it was narrow, have you seen the lanes in rural Devon? Nissan Cube looks OK but no 4x4 automatics on Ebay or Autotrader so did they make them? Can anyone find a SMALL 4x4 automatic with rear suitable for the hoist available secondhand for around £7k please.0

For the 4WD cube you'll need to be looking at importing one from Japan, such as this one. As for the Panda 4x4 they did make them in the new shape, though I'm not sure you'll be fitting a power chair into the back of a Panda, new or old shape. To be honest I'm not sure you'll be fitting one in the back of a Cube either, unless you get one with the radio control thingy so you can drive it out the back without sitting in it.
And while I've not seen the lanes in rural Devon, I'm sure they're not too much worse than the ones in the Welsh valleys. An FWD car with a decent LSD and/or TC should cope?
Once again I'd ask what model of powered wheelchair does he have? He may have to drive a larger vehicle whether he likes it or not.0 -
Thanks Lum, don't think they are up to organizing to import a car, would like to look at one like that for sale in UK. They don't have a wheelchair yet but thought one like a push wheelchair with a battery under the seat would suit them. My father uses a wheeled zimmer around the house and rarely goes out, we are trying to encourage him to get out at least once a week.0

If he doesn't have the wheelchair yet and you're wanting him to get out and about... what about a motability scooter? it might be easier to pick up a Berlingo / Partner van with a ramp and park the scooter in the back0

No they don't. I drive down plenty of single track roads around here. Never needed a 4WD yet.
The only people who think you NEED a 4WD to live in the country seem to be townies with no clue. Certainly its not those who have been brought up in the country.0 -
Would a manual wheelchair with power assisted wheels, such as the e-Motion wheels be suitable? You can then get a fancy folding chair such as the Kuschal Champion which he could disassemble, fold and put onto the back seat of a 3 door car whilst sitting in the drivers seat.
This then gives you options such as the Suzuki Vitara or Samurai if you really want a 4x4.0 -

but they are elderly, so a 4x4 would give them the added piece of mind if they do get stuck when going 'off road' to over take. The OP's dad is 90 and needing a wheelchair so he wouldn't be able to get out and push if they get stuck.0 -
Do they get motability?
As I tried to say to a touchy person on another thread, I'm sure if you get a car adapted for diasability through them you can get some big chunks off the price.
Might be worth looking for something custom made with swivel chairs or something.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

It'll either never get used because they can't work out how usit or engaged and forgotten about as the tyres then continue getting ripped to shreds and its doing 10MPG...
If they can't get off a bit of grass when passing on a country lane, whether they are fit to still be driving needs to be questioned.
I have never ever in over two decades of driving ever seen someone get stuck when passing another car on a single track country lane and I come from an area where the nearest bit of dual carriageway is over 30 miles away.0
