Unlocking a virgin phone

I want to change my virgin sim for an orange sim (free thanks to MSE) as it has better reception. I have got my PUK from Virgin but can anyone tell me what I do with it. By the way the phone is an LG B2100

If you have credited £30 to your phone, simply call virgin and they will send you out an unlocking code.

it's not the PUK code you want. That is for when you lock yourself out of your phone for example when you enter the wrong pin code 3 times on start up
