I have paid for a business connection for years. You get nothing more than a domestic customer but you pay £10 more just for being a business customer.

I understand for big business having lots of pc's etc but I just have one connected to internet.

Many of my freinds just have a bog standard domestic account at work so I think that is what I will do.

Depending on how important broadband will be to running your business, I wouldn't look for the cheapest package. If it's a business cost you might be able to claim some of that back anyway.

Might be worth figuring out exactly what you expect from the service, e.g. priority support, an SLA (Service Level Agreement), lower contention ratio, good level of usage etc etc.

"2kg broadband? it's measured by it's weight now..." - Is that heavy usage broadband? :D

    Good luck

  • hi, thanks for the replies , and congratulations on spotting my deliberate mistake, your prize is in the post.

Anway im suprised no one can come up with some cheap options for business broadband. it would be for light use and the business would not be dependant on it, more for reference and emails so i dont think support would be a consideration, just bog standard 2mb or higher,,,help someone,,,,

  • Hi Pedigreeblue,

You are able to use a consumer service for a business. As you say it's for light use and your business would not be dependent on it, you might want to consider taking a residential option.

The difference between a residential package and a business package is that a business package comes with a Service Level Agreement and higher usage which is why these packages are more expensive.

A Service Level Agreement basically ensures your right to have a broadband connection all the time and if that isn't met there is usually some kind of clause in place where you get compensated for any time that there is a service outage. Residential packages do not normally include this caveat in their terms and conditions; an SLA is quite a bit more expensive then the average home user is willing to pay.

There are residential providers out there who provide very good services with little to no reports of outages - this would probably be the cheaper option then going with a business product if an SLA isn't important to you.

    Good luck!

You could try Zen (https://www.zen.co.uk) they do some light packages, but you would need the BT line enabled. I have been using them for the last 6 months and find them very good.

Oh, and the other good thing about them are they are only 1 month contracts, not minimum of 12 like many BB providers.
  • hi, thanks for the replies, the broadband is required in a office/warehouse, so it is not a residential address, so maybe im wrong but i didnt think i could have a residential broadband package, help?

  • Well yes, in theory but....

If you pay for your bb via a personal credit card (don't forget to claim it back) this will then be registered to your home address.

So will the line be a business line as it's in an office/warehouse? Can you get residential BB on a business line?
