I bought the Garmin Streetpilot i3 from the CarphoneWarehouse when it was on offer (saw the offer on here, but can't find the thread now....).....
I've not had it for more than a few months, and already it's telling me that my maps are out of date, and they need updating.... I'm assuming this'll cost me....
In another thread I see that if you need an update within 3 months of purchase you can update for free....
Has anyone had any experience of this or know how I can do it please???
cheers

at what point does it tell you the maps are out of date? Mine doesn't. I have read the same on other message boards too.
Do you get it just the once or all the time?0 -
I wouldn't want to suggest to such an experienced poster as Amba_Gambla that doing a search of this forum for "i3 v9 maps", or something similar, might achieve results, but you will probably end up at this Pocket GPS World forum...

Well I wouldn't like to particularly point out to a relitavely new member such as yourself, but the suggested search was done.... as well as a search for "streetpilot", "street pilot", "garmin", "carphonewarehouse", "carphone warehouse", "car phone warehouse" but turned nothing up.
But thanks for your suggestion anyway
I have already joined the PGPSF, but am still to find an answer
thanks for your concern anyway0 -

when you switch it on, before it lets you navigate anywhere it tells you that your maps need updating...... it happens every time I switch it on....0 -

.....and even if you do search for the suggested "i3 v9 maps", there is still no answer to my query.....0 -

You can do a reset to get rid of the nag screen for a while. (From the pocketGPSworld forums....)
Q: How do I reset the i3?
(Warning: this may remove all personal data such as Favourites etc)
A: With the unit switched off, hold down the Left/Back button and the scroll wheel then press the power button. This will show a confirmation screen and you can reset the unit from here.
Worked on mine and then I got a tomtom 510Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -

I found that bit..... that's not what bothers me....
I bought the until a few moths ago, and already the maps are out of date. I hope that Garmin aren't expecting me to cough up for new maps so soon after my initial purchase....
I heard a rumour that I may be entitled to free map updates.0 -

how bizarre, I don't get any such message, and had mine since may0 -
My Garmin has been saying for several monthes that it needs up dates but i have moved on to the next screen and it has been fine. I have not use it for some weeks until yesterday, now it will not let me past the first screen and says i have to go to the website.
Does this mean i will have to pay for updates and will i have to pay every year? (i only bought it in August)
Do you have to pay a yearly subscription for all sat navs?0
