Hi everyone

someone told me once that he posted a tmobile sim to his mum in india or kenya, cant remember, and he used that number to send free txts to via his monthly inclusive txts from the UK.

i was thinking, if i send an O2 pay as u go sim card to my wife whos in pakistan, and she puts it into her mobile fone, do u think i'll be able to send txts to that O2 number for free using my inclusive txts i get on my UK O2 contract from within the UK?

has anyone tried and tested any similar mechanism in pakistan?

thanks

    Hi Ishaqmir,

I think txt msgs only apply to within the UK. Techincally, if u did send it to Pakistan then it would come uder the roaming agreement with Pakistan and that would be classified as abroad albeit within the same network (sim agreement - i.e, from UK O2 sim to a roaming O2 sim).

but if ur unsure call o2 cust services.........

    hi

If they are both UK sims then you can send to her and it will come out of your allowance

she wouldnty be charged to receive

If she was to send a sms back it would cost her quite alot about 25-40p dependant on the roaming partner o2 have!!
if i had known then what i know now

If you only have to send sms then all you need is an internet connection and and local Pakistan mobile phone for your wife. You can send email to text from any computer for e.g is your wife has a mobilink mobile phone then you send an email to text by mobilinknumber"mobilinkgsm.com. similarly for other mobile providors in Pakistan you can send messages. More info available on the web sites of the mobile companies in Pakistan. Not only that if you want to chat you can chat free from your computer and her mobile(so that she does not have to be on the computer) by using chat featurres on these websites.

    Hope this helps

    thanks for replies

mobicate? r u sure about this? that i wont be charged and it will just come out of my allowance of free text messages. i remember calling O2 about it and they said that if the sim was abroad and i sent a message to it, it'l just cost me the usual 10p or 12p, but not come out of my inclusive package. but then my mates said that its possible it will come out of my free messages. am confused. have u solid evidence that it works with O2, in pakistan?

mm66? yeah, thnx for the info, but i already send txt messages from websites, i use alphatelecom which charges 5p per txt. she's on Ufone and i can use their site to send free txts, but am not sure if she gets em. will try again.
but i need a method where i can send em through my fone as well, via my free inclusive bundle.

    Definitely works!!

    And this is why!

As far as you are aware that UK O2 sim is in the UK and not PAKISTAN!

So for you the sender or caller your charges ALWAYS REMAIN THE SAME!!!

its the person at the other end (The person whos abroad)
Who foots the bill!!! WHY? They know they are abroad!!!

They are charged to receive your call and to make a call back to you.... they are charged higher rates to send sms back but its always free to receive

Its gauranteed!! Theres a guy from O2 whos lurking around at the moment on these boards!! He will confirm it for you (evidence)!!

I work for an independant UK Mobile phone retailer now and used to work for T-mobile for over 3 years too... its just knowledge you pick up as you go along!!
if i had known then what i know now

    hi,

i have been reading this thread with a lot of interest.....I have a friend at work who is currently spending about £300 with t-mobile texting (mainly) to her fiance in Sri Lanka.

Does anyone know a cheap method of texting to sri-lanka? via the web maybe?

Can she send a contact t-mobile sim abroad and would that mean she would be able to text that mobile for the usual tmob-tmob sms rate. She currently is paying something like 35 pence per message.

Any help will be appreciated and gratefully passed on to a girl in LOOOOVE.....

    regards

Send ANY UK sim abroard and it is included in the price - and without the overseas user being charged unless they send something - as explained in an earlier post. If you get a decent deal like 500 texts in your contract (02 online is the best deal to my knowledge) then you would save a considerable amount.
Just double check thet te network of the sim card you are sending roams in the country you want tpo send it too - it should do but its better to be safe than sorry

It sounds like it would be an idea to get the person abroad to send a foreign SIM here as well for cheaper msgs in this direction

that wouldnt be much use in countries like pakistan, where Ufone charge 1.5 Rs for national text, and 1.5 Rs for International. How bizarre!! international text same price as national. hehe.

and check it out, 1.5 Rs is like 1.5p. imagine that? international texts in Uk for 1.5p each. hehe. But Pakistan is a developing third world country, so i guess 1.5 Rs is actually worth much more than 1.5p.
