As in the ones available from Halfords...are they any good?
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_207579_categoryId_226211_langId_-1?cm_sp=Intelligent_Offer-_-Product_Details_Zone_1-_-Blank&iozone=PDPz1#dtab
Or is a more 'permanent' one better?
I sometimes have a 'few' drinks out and need to travel early in the morning, being able to check would certainly make me feel better (excusing the hangover of course)

There is no legal requirement for their accuracy. If you need to travel early the following morning then don't drink. Simple. Its hardly rocket science. If you can't manage to have the willpower not to drink the night before then perhaps you need to take a look at your alcohol dependency.0

bit harsh, thank you for your opinion0

If you doubt that you may be sober enough to drive, then you aren't sober enough to drive.
End of.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

You're a drinker - didn't you know we put you in the stocks these days young one? Go and do something constructive with yourself, such as smoke dope, vote labour, support the nanny state, ever higher levels of civil regulation, whilst claiming top rate DLA and stop concerning yourself with parasitical and right wing activities like working and paying tax.0

Is the rule of thumb not roughly 1 hour per unit?
e.g. if you were to have 5 pints of beer at 2 units per pint would be 10 units. Therefore you shouldn't be driving for at least 10 hours...0 -
I was once told if you've had a 'few' mid percentage ranged drinks, its best to leave 12 hours between your last drink and getting in the car. If your sinking a bottle of wine or a few vodkas then driving 6 hours later then your still going to be over the limit.0

clearly a daily mail reader.....................
OP the general rule of thumb is if in doubt don't drive. If you have to drive early in the morning stop drinking earlier rather than continuing into the early hours. 12 Hours is a good time span (if you have been drinking moderately) to have between your last drink and driving again.
As someone else mentioned these systems have no legal requirement to be accurate and if you pass that but fail the police check who's test is the judge going to use in court!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Not really harsh, if you want to risk losing your licence and possibly your job for the sake of risking having a alcohol level above the legal limit that is up to you, but is it worth it?0 -
