You silly boy.
I'm not totalling £29 pound, that's your mistake.
Your adding £2 to the £27 instead of subtracting from it.:wall:

One last attempt.
£30 was handed over
Deduct £3 as it was handed back to the friends
Deduct £25 placed in the shop's till
Deduct £2 pocketed by the owner
THERE IS NO MISSING POUND
Each friend paid £9, not £8.33333.:wall:

Why would I subtract it from it? Collosal error.
Shall I explain it in marbles for you!?
3 lads have 10 marbles each.
They put their 10 marbles into a pot, equalling 30 marbles.
They go into a shop and exchange the 30 marbles for a gun.
The shopkeeper realises he has overcharged them, as the gun only cost 25 marbles.
The shopkeeper is holding 5 of their marbles (hehe).
He decides to keep 2 marbles, and run after them to hand them 3 marbles back.
The lads now have 3 marbles, 1 marble each.
So, the shopkeeper took 25 marbles for the gun, and kept 2 marbles because he's a cheeky beggar. Thats 27 marbles. He then gave the 3 marbles back to the lads, who split them equally and take 1 marble each.
How you pay £8.333333 for something is not in the least relevant. But that's what they paid. It's not for me to explain it. It's for you to figure it out.0 -
Anyway Hamish, apologies for ruining an excellent thread.0

The easiest way to explain this is to say
- the gun cost 25
- the cashier kept 2
- 3 was returned
Total = 30
The cost of the gun was 25 so each person technically contributed 8.33 which was graham's point plus they each got a pound back.
You were both saying the same thing on your original answers then you over-scrutinized it.0 -

They didn't pay £8.3333 they paid £9 with the shop effectively taking 92.592592%(recurring) and the owner taking 7.407407% (recurring)
Answer this
If they paid £8.33333 and they have £1 in their pocket, why dor £8.3333 + £1 = £10 (clue = they paid more than £8.3333):wall:

One more time...
They paid 8.33 each for the gun plus they each contirubted 0.66 to the thief which = 9 each.
Realize how you were both saying the same thing yet?0 -

This is why people get errors with this teezer
£8.33 + £1 does not equal £10, hence the quiz where the money went to.
The friends clearly paid £9 to the shop owner.
It cost the friends £27 for the gun, not £25.
The shop owner simply chose to put £25 through the till and pocket the remaining £2
If the friends paid £8.33 each and have £1 in their pocket, where has their £0.67 pence each gone to?
Further more 3 x £0.67 = £2.01, so where did the additional penny come from?:wall:

Ok,
£8.33 + £0.66 = £8.99.
Where did the penny go?:wall:
