Still not sure about the risk of buying tickets whilst we are away or whether to book online so we're sure to have seats together and that we don't just see dots on a pitch (I've never been to a football match in my life!)
Much to consider and I really appreciate all the suggestions.
Have a great day
I'd risk it personally, the worse case scenario you pay over the odds to get a ticket (which will be inline with what you'd pay online)
First time i went i was on the second tier behind the goal, the next time i went 2 years later and 3x the price i was on the third tier at the back.
the majority of the ticket boxes ladies speak enough english and will show a seating plan. so you know exactly whereabouts you need to go0 -
If it were me, I'd buy the tickets in advance and just look forward to it.
I would also try and combine it with the stadium tour. I don't think that you can go into the dressing rooms on match days, so may be an idea to go the day before. Bear in mind that they close early on Sundays. The tour will take 2-3 hours. You just turn up at the ticket office on the day of the tour and get your tickets then.

We went to see Barca play in August for my son's 16th birthday as that is what he wanted(Barcelona v Real Madrid supercup) We booked tickets online before hand, as someone has already said there website would not take uk cards, so bought them via servicaixa. You can pick the tickets up from many areas around Barcelona or from the boxoffice at the stadium just make sure you take the card you paid them with and your passport as you have to prove you paid for them. Make sure you do book flights at least a day before and after the game just incase they change the date. Also if you want to do the tour don't do the day of the match. As for who you go and see play, i think any game at Barca will be amazing but if you can get to see Real Madrid or Valencia and personally if you are doing this for a gift and he obviously is a footie fan the best you can buy( we were row D 130euro each just from the half way line) but just to go to see a match at camp nou wherever you are sitting will the an experience as the atmosphere is electric!! We stayed for 6days and stayed 4days near the centre and then moved closer to the stadium for the last 2 so we didn't have to worry about travel getting back to the hotel as it was within walking distance.
Personally:
1) book your football tickets in advance from the u.k they don't seem to be any dearer than what you pay when you get there but i could be wrong.
2) Pay for what your happy in paying for your football tickets but as they say you get what you pay for, the atmosphere will be the same if you were on the touch line or up in the sky(but it does seem miles away from the pitch!!)
I hope you get it sorted and you will make someone very happy and even if your not a fan yourself you will enjoy it i'm sure, i know i did and my son thought he'd died and gone to heaven!!
Hope this helps. x0
