Advice please to see Barcelona soccer team play as part of a holiday

Recently went to Salou & did the trip to Barcelona & the stadium. The hotel reception also had notices on the desk for trips to watch Barcelona & Espanyol -surprisingly Espanyol was more expensive, but they were playing Real Madrid. Whilst on the tour, we were told that tickets for the Camp Nou were not that difficult to come by, apart from the big games.0

I've another question - I haven't a clue about Spanish teams, but as I cannot (or extremely unlikely to) get a Real Madrid v. Barcelona ticket, what is another good team that would be worth watching.. or should I just try and get a ticket to any game as the standard of play will always be good in the league they're in?
I wouldn't worry too much about who the other team is, if they are a top team then it should be a close game, if they're not then at least your boyfriend will see Barca scoring a hatful. It's Barca he wants to see [posters suggesting going to see Espanyol please note] and I would expect them to put out a good team whoever they're playing.
There are also Champions League knockout phase games taking place between 14 - 22 February, but you won't know who Barca will be playing, when their game is, and whether it's at home, until a lot nearer the time. In addition there are Copa del Rey games on Feb 1st and 8th but as you can't know whether Barca are playing until Jan 25th (unless they are knocked out earlier) that's probably cutting things a bit fine.0 -
My son wants the same thing; tickets to a Barcelona match.
I have been looking on the website that was recommended above, my question is whats the view like from the back? I need 2 seats together and that seems to be all that's available.
Just need to know if it's worth going if all you can see is dots on a pitch
Does anyone know
Thanks.0 -
I have been to two matches at the Nou Camp, both times the 'dots on the pitch' scenario. That's not a problem if you know all the players on the team very well, as you can usually identify them by their hair and the way they run, as well as the position they play. If you don't, well it might be a bit boring......
We are both football fans, and always try to visit the statdium of the local big team in whichever country we go, just to say we have been there !0 -

I suggested Espanyol as i've been to Barcelona twice in the past year to get inked and the first time they were playing Real Madrid, so no chance of a ticket and the 2nd time they were'nt playing at home. However I could have got Espanyol tickets, have to admit I didnt as i was a tad sore so didnt fancy a footie game.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
I'd strongly suggest you buy your tickets now and work your dates and triparound whatever you can get. You need to ensure that you have at least a day either side of the date that you book as sometimes the matches get moved to accommodate TV showing.
We only found out that the game we were going to see had been switched from Sun to Sat after arriving in Barcelona and calling into a merchandise shop so that OH could buy himself a shirt! So bare in mind that games can be moved very last minute - I'd been checking online up until the day we left.
Also, not sure if you are big on football or not but I found the atmosphere at the Noucamp diffferent to anything I'd experienced in the UK. The crowd seemed much more there for an 'experience' rather than the football... I loved it! Got well involved in the booing everytime the other side got the ball =D
Another point to note, the only "beer" they sell inside the stadium is alcohol free!0 -
Having been to both Barcelona and Valencia this year IMO Valencia is much the nicer place for a 'city break' - less 'touristy' and more relaxed.
I disagree, I would say Barcelona is much more a 'city break' location, I have been 3 times and would go back at the drop of a hat.
Valencia bored me - all we saw was cathedral after cathedral after cathedral. The beaches however are lovely (maybe not in Feb tho!) and the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is brilliant.
I guess it comes down to personal taste and what you look for in a holiday0 -
i will once again say avoid buying tickets online unless you are willing to pay over the odds.
if barce are playing a smaller club you will be able to walk up the day before and buy from the ticket counters (north side: avinguda de joan xxii).
have a few beers on the travessera de les corts street beforehand
ps. i'm also fed up with barce, so unless my club HTFC play barce away i can't see myself going back0 -
Thanks for the continuing responses. We will be seeing Barcelona play - that's non-negotiable! Still not sure about the risk of buying tickets whilst we are away or whether to book online so we're sure to have seats together and that we don't just see dots on a pitch (I've never been to a football match in my life!)
Much to consider and I really appreciate all the suggestions.
Have a great day0
