Thanks for pointing this out. I did get my money back - after sending a registered letter and involving Trading Standards.
I had also been waiting for three months (and made countless phone calls promising I was 'next on the list' for a refund) with no luck. Thanks to your suggestion of contacting Trading Standards - I sent the recorded delivery letter as required, after a week with no response I went back to Trading Standards, and within a few hours of them contacting We Are Electricals on my behalf, the refund was in my bank account.

their direct number is 0121 663 0717 but it seems the only way to get your refund is to pursue them through trading standards0

I've had the same problems with them, yet my local trading standards dept - in Cornwall, say they can 'do nothing' because it is out of their area. Even though it seems to be both fraud and theft, the police say they can 'do nothing' as it is a civil matter! Isn't fraud and theft a crime?
Surely there should be a National Trading Standards dept that dealswith internet sales (or not-sales, in this case!)
I ordered on Nov 11th and they went through the out of stock routine, tried to get me to accept a credit note, and eventually agreed to refund, saying I was on the priority list for a refund. They said they were within their rights to wait 30 days before refunding, though they could give no valid reason why they should hold my money for 30 days as they were unable to supply. They stopped replying to my emails on Nov 24th and have not refunded my £139. I have now contacted Birmingham Trading Standards.
I see that their website is still up and running and they are still advertising goods for sale. I don't believe they actually have them. There isn't a polite word to describe these thieves.0 -

Much more consumer focused than any the local authority trading standards offices can be.
Consumer Direct will contact the appropriate Trading Standards office when necessary.0 -

How did you pay? If by credit card, your card issuer is jointly liable for any failed service and should refund you. If by debit card, you should be able to ask your bank to do a chargeback.
Contact your bank or card issuer.
Edit: I've just read the rest of the thread and it seems that people have been paying by bank transfer. If this is the case, the options above won't be available"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I have managed after many attempts to get my money back from these unbelieveable people. This whole story would be better understood if we all lived in a dubious African country! The authorities should be ashamed of themselves because the local trading standards and the police have been made aware of this money making scam being operated from a small sub office in Birmingham overlooking the canals. In fact, if anyone wants to make money, just copy their example because they must have scammed tens of thousands of pounds from punters from around the country. Advice is to give them 14 days to make your refund or you will take court action & MEAN IT. Small claims court only costs £30 & you dont have to turn up, just fill a form in with the details of the scam.
Look at the "Review Centre" on the web
Additionally, I have seen this on the web:
Contact your local trading standards & trading standards in Birmingham.
then report the issue to your local police and show them this site address with all the complaints & any others you know about to show the serious nature of the fraud being committed by these people.
this gives all the details of the people hiding behind the scenes. Give this detail to the police too.
In this way, the authorities will take notice of the amount of fraud being committed by we are electricals.0 -
Thank you Wealdroam (as a new user I am not allowed to quote your post apparently!)
Yes thank you - I first contacted Consumer Direct. They too seem to be area based. They told me they had referred it on to Trading Standards. They gave me the name of the Trading Standards person dealing with it. But I had to chase them, and I was told by a different Trading Standards person that the named person had 'noted' my complaint and CLOSED THE FILE! Because it was out of their area!
Fluffnutter, thank you - but I did pay by BACS. WAE encourage BACS payments by reducing the price if you use this method. Never again!
Blackscarfe: I have now also contacted Birmingham Trading Standards, sent the 14 day legal letter to WAE, and given the police ALL the details. But the police say they can do nothing because it is a 'civil matter'. Maybe I should have contacted Birmingham police and not my local police?
Both the police and Trading Standards and Consumer Direct are all being paid for by our taxes, and I am disheartened by their 'do nothing' approach. The first two above are SURELY there to STOP scams like this? If they can't do anything why are people being paid?0 -
After my local Trading Standards closed the case because it was 'out of their area' I contacted Birmingham Trading Standards. They were very helpful but seemed disappointed that my local area wouldn't deal with it. It took a bit of time but today the money is back in my bank! That's from November 11th! I am SO grateful to Birmingham Trading Standards and have told them so! We are Electricals did not reply to my emails and did NOT let me know they were at last refunding, as they had promised. I will NEVER pay anyone by BACS again and NEVER order anything from We Are Electricals!0

Ordered something last year from these muppets, it took ages BUT did arrive, however I bought it from elsewhere and asked for a refund, they have promised they will refund which I have returned via recorded post I have signatures etc, however it's been way past the 30 day rule and dispute numerous emails and failed telephone call ie can't speak to anyone at all, what r my options now?0
