Remembering Pin Numbers/Passwords nightmare

I really struggle to remember pin numbers/passwords to my various online bank & internet accounts.. Can anybody suggest a simple way of having different passwords, etc. to match different accounts so that I can remember them? I know many people have simply given up this struggle and use the same passwords for everything which compromises security. I even have a computer Password Protection programme and regularly forget its access password !! Should I stick to keeping my savings under the mattress??

Hi, try Egg Money Manager. It doesn't cover all accounts but near enough and you can see all your balances in one place.

Perhaps you need a Free Password Manager

    Try Google. I'm sure you'll get a result. :)

The following has a password generator as well as excellent reviews. Neither does it come with any Spyware.

Write your pin number on the back of the card.

I'm afraid I write mine down. There's no chance I could remember them all but I do use slight variations of the same words or add a particular two numbers. I did read somewhere that it is not a good idea to tick the boxes that sometimes come up asking "do you want us to remember this password". Apparently it's a potential security issue and therefore I never tick it. something else I read recently was to use the letters of your password/s back to front.

One method I like is to have a common password for everything, but 'mix in' letters/numbers specific to the account. That gives you a unique and complex password that you can easily derive from two memorable ones.

I use KeePass Password safe - it's free, open source, and highly regarded.

One really neat feature is you can put the URL of the website in the entry for your login details, so then you have all the websites that you need to login to listed with their details. You can create password groups to organiose things, like online banking, shopping, forums etc.
It has a password generator for creating new passwords too.
I don't know how I ever lived without it.
Obviously you need then to remember the master password, because, as it's so secure, if you forget that, there is absolutely no way of accessing your password file :o

    I use DriveCrypt.

I put the details into a Excel file, dont bother with a password as there isnt any point in using MS Office passwords.

Then you mount the DriveCrypt drive image file using DriveCrypt, and place the Excel file into the virtual drive.

Then unmount it when you're finished.

    Pretty useful.
