Family and friends o2 discount not remained following upgrade to iPhone 4s

Hi
I'm looking for some guidance/help
My existing contract expired on 16 oct - £25/month (3G iPhone on the £35/month tariff with 30% f&f discount applied)
My partner recently upgraded the same deal this summer to get an iPhone 4 on the o2 900 contract (£42/month) and retained her f&f bolt on. The sales assistant in Carphone warehouse today also said that it should stay following an uograde, and the o2 online site showed th f&f bolt as having 'no end date'. So, I'd done everything I could think of that would suggest it would remain.
Having upgraded at car phone warehouse today, logging in to o2 now only shows an 'all rounder' data package bolt on.
I've not opened the 4s yet for fear of this happening - what should I do/try, and what can I do? What are my rights (if any)?
If I'd have not upgraded then the 30% discount would have obv remained.
If discount couldn't be retained, then I'd have obv looked for a better new customer (or retentions?) deal that wouldn't have seen quite such a steep price hike...
Data plans are all worse too. Doh.
Any help greatly appreciated

I believe that friends and family is only available through O2 themselves, not a third party like CPW. It would be worthwhile checking that with O2 before you get too far into the contract as the CPW person may have unintentionally misled you.
Incidentally, whilst contracts don't expire, discounts applied to them often do.0 -
Thanks techhead. I'll contact o2 today.
I just feel a bit cheated and misled (by cpw sales and the 'no end date' bolton entry on my account. If the Bolton no longer remains at renewall that's fine, but I should've been told that upfront as it would inform my choices. The fact my partner had hers carry over only 3 months ago makes it even more bad luck! Lol!

On most (if not all) networks, as Techhead says F+F discount is only available if you go direct to the network themselves. Once you upgrade through a third party you lose it.
Its usual for new handsets not to be offered on F+F in their first few weeks/month as they don't want to give any discounts on them.0 -
Carphone do a f+f discount on O2 with the iPhone, it usually carries on when you upgrade. Perhaps with the one direct with O2 you have to reapply?Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).

I think that could be where the confusion started, the salesmen and the OP were talking about different things. If correct the salesman should have clarified what was being discussed.
Either way a call to O2 will sort out what has happened and if its CPW, then back to them to sort it.0
