be wary of the Bank Giro Slips, the Post Office will make a charge for this, as will the bank if you don't have an account there. Last I recall banks charge up to £5 for handling the transaction. Try instead to get a pre-payment card which can be used at any Pay Point and just pay what you can afford, nothing extra or they'll expect that amount each month.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is, don't stretch yourself just to please Moorcroft. The well being of you and your children come before these scumbags.

    Good Luck

i have been in the exact same posisiton as you, back in the day when i had dealings with these tw@ts use to reduce me to a nervous wreck, they would say i had to use money that was meant for my kids to pay them and i would jump everytime my door went........well fast forward 2 years......lets just say i am wise to them and i don't put up with there BS, you really need not worry about baillifs at the very worsed they may send a debt collector but its unlikey ( ive never had one turn up, touch wood :o ) but even if they did they have as much right to ask you for money on the door stop as the milkman they are toothless, ie they my look scary and ugly but they have no BITE! :rotfl:

can they still send a baliff round?

    No they can't.

    They would need to

    (1) Have a CCJ first/
    (2) Have you default on payments under a CCJ.
    (3) Apply to the court.

At point (3) you would receive advance notice, and have a chance to get any bailiff action cancelled/suspended and payments looked at again.

In practice, for normal debts it take forever for the procedures to get to bailiffs, you would have plenty of opportunity to get any action stopped, and creditors are very unlikely to try in the first place.

Basically requires a long sequence of lengthy and unlikely things to happen before there is even a chance.

Put it out of your mind.

It's possible that you might have a debt collector turn up, but they have no powers at all and are not bailiffs. You just tell them to get lost. If they won't leave, you call the police and have em removed.

so the general and much apprciated advice is, is not to stress about moorcroft and there bold letters but to reduce what i am paying so i can pay the others which are of higher amounts.
I do seem to agree with you as the other debts the banks have been exceptionaly helpful buy freezing intrest and no charges. Barcleys i have been paying 60 for nearly a year and half to a debt of 10000. at the one year point they sent me a letter stating if i paid 4500 they would write the debt of. Alas i didnt have that kind of cash at hand. But i am hoping to be able to save about 5000 over next 12 months to try and offer thaem the amount and see if they will take that.

Raven back 6 months and i was close to tears on one occassion as they demanded money and put the frightners on. I had enought money to pay for a cheap caravan holiday in cornwall and because i paid them a token amount it left me really short on the holiday. I got upset cos i could buy or pay for rides etc that all other families were doing. I just hope they remember the free fun we had at the beach and parks

Once again a big thanks to you all.

got my first letter demanding money in full today. the usual stuff, red and black, court costs etc etc. I am going to write to them tonight stating i can pay £15.50 a month. in the letter i backed this up by saying 60 months times 15.50 equals 750. debt paid. and as i have bigger debts which have agreed the money i have offered they should accept that. does that sound reasonble? the less i am paying to them the more i can pay to the bigger debts
If they wont accept that can they take me to court for that. I will pay them the 15.50 a month even if they decline
And no although i must have bad credit rating now, i have not been taken to court for any debts so does that mean it would take a long time for moorcroft to take me to court

    thanks
    all

    DevonLad,

Not having a go but I dont understand if you're so much in debt that you've got debt collectors coming around that you'd even pay for a holiday? I know you said it was cheap but surely its not essential is it?

Now I dont know the circumstances of your debt but is it something you spent money on or for another reason?
