Moorcroft recovery

Hello all,
would like some advice please. I have been paying by Direct Debit £208 each month to moorcroft for the last three months towards a debt of £1400. Although was a struggle i scraped by. When they contacted me i got lots of threating letters of court, baliffs etc so under great duress they got me to hand over that amount and last payment being 01 feb 12.
I have had to cancel the DD this month as just cant make ends meet this month. Now awaiting the barage of calls etc from them over the next few days.
All my other debts i have negotiated payment without using the DMP that i nearly set up through the CCS. The dmp have all my info etc and i could activate it whenever. With mbna i quoted my DMP assignment number and they happily accepted my offer of £50 a month towards a debt of £5000, this was more then what they would have been assigned by the DMP and as the debts are cleared i will contribute more.
Am i able to renegoitate with them as i know the debt is mine etc. Also i might be able to offer F & F of £500 nxt month due to someone close offered to give me some spare cash. I still owe them £800 and worried about what actions they might take.
in frank when i spoke to them on many occassions they just clamed up and refused to listen to any offers such as 100 for 12 months. the threats worry me with court and baliffs
regards and thx for listening

pleased rest assured they will not send baillifs ok. what you need to do it write to them (never phone) and you need to put in writing of how much you are willing to pay each month and that they have to accept that amount and also ask them to send you some payment slips so you dont have to give them your card details when you pay etc.Raven. :grinheart:grinheart:grinheart0

they were very tough on thephone and with there letters, i do want to clear debt asap so i can use the £200 to clear other debts. Do you think if i offer £500 they might accept?

Devonlad Hello ,
Moorcroft are a bunch of bullies . There is hardly a day goes by here where someone in your position posts about the worry & anxiety they cause .
Raven is right , they will never take you to court . Their tactics are to bully you .
Firstly contact your bank again & advise them that under no circumstances should a new DD be set up .
If you can't pay this month don't . Make a token payment of £1.00 and send this letter ( section 5 letters for a token payment )
http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/debt_advice.php#6
At the same time and only if you can afford to ask them what their figure would be for a FF settlement don't mention that you may be in a position to pay .
If they harass you by phone send the harassment letter from the above link .
National debit line will give you free & confidential advice .
Finally they will make threats, but I promise you, they will not send a debit collector and they will not take you to court even if you don't pay .:)0 -

One debt collector one the phone stated if I didn't pay £1400 over the phone today he would make me bankrupt.
I asked him when the debt was from and he said 1992 so after I stopped laughing I told him to go ahead and I would tell the court its statue barred.
The amount of debt collectors coming out of the woodwork and buying really old debts from over eights years ago is unbelievable and when I tell them its statue barred and I'm not paying they say see you in court.I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
One debt of mine has been sold three times and the amount of letters I've had from them threatening court action and bankruptcy and bailiffs is just stupid and especially a debt from 1983.
And when I tell them its from 1983 they say what's the hell has that got to do with it? I say statue barred and p off.I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
what is statue barred?
I am not trying to avoid paying my debts in the slightest, but been let down by the wife who has left me in a difficult position. My worry is ulitmatley that am coping at the moment but fear the intrest rates rising.
Am trying to clear my debts asap so i can think about buying a place again and not having to worry about clothes for kids and being able to get them a treat or two.
When i set up the DD with moorcroft they insisted all they would take was £208 nothing less. I did feel threatened by them as there debt was 1400 compared to barcleys £10000. But barcleys were amazingly helpful as have been halifax and santander. Once the big banks were able to see that i was geniune trying to pay and set up a DMP they were content to reduce intrest and fees without wasting more time negotiating etc.
I know they will phone loads today as today is the day they should receive their payment.
What is the worst they can do to me if i pay a token payment of a pound for this month.
should i ask them what they will take as a final payment?
thx u MSE users been more supportive then you could poss know

Next time they call, just put the phone down on them and pay them what you can until circumstances change. If it's a token payment of £1 a month so be it... stuff em.0

thx, but if i only pay £1.00 surely they could take me to court for not paying what i owe. I can just about afford all out goings but this month been caught out by the car going wrong. If i only pay a pound and say stuff them and only pay a pound a month surely they have the right to seek the money asap. one letter said about going to court and getting an attachement of earnings. I think this means that it will be deducted from my pay before i get my pay in bank.
What is the worst that can happen as i am not avoinding the debt, just cant pay 208 a month at the moment?

Please also be aware that for every £10 of debt you owed they have bought that debt for a tiny fraction of that cost....you owe them very little really and more people should be aware of this....your credit rating is the main hit that you face...and in reality should we borrow what we can not afford...?...lessons must be learnt!0
