Good ideas on cutting back - lots of easy ways there, thats great!
But I think we should be told how on earth you store all the clothes you by I'm fascinated at how you manage it!*M*A*G*I*C* I'm fascinated at how you manage it!*M*A*G*I*C* Good question KC, actually, I gauge the volume of clothes I have by the amount of storage ... ie I'm very fussy about hangers, so if I run out of my preferred ones, then it's time to get rid of some stuff ( or cunningly double hang little cardis over dresses Good question KC, actually, I gauge the volume of clothes I have by the amount of storage ... ie I'm very fussy about hangers, so if I run out of my preferred ones, then it's time to get rid of some stuff ( or cunningly double hang little cardis over dresses ) I store all my out of season stuff in my old school trunk - boarding school was good for something after all :rotfl:- ) I store all my out of season stuff in my old school trunk - boarding school was good for something after all :rotfl:-
I have a largeish wardrobe with a shelf where I fold my jeans in a pile on one side & fold my basic t-shirt tops on the other side.
Dresses, tops, cardis, trousers, skirts all hang up, apart from the fabby Joe Browns crinkle dresses & skirts which need to be screwed up in a ball & get hurled on the shelf - looooove them
I also have a chest of drawers with deep drawers; the 2 small drawers at the top hold my undies on one side & socks, tights on the other.
The next drawer down hold vest tops on one side & pj's on the other
The bottom drawer is humungously deep & holds woollies & scarves.
I'd love to say that my shoes & boots all go neatly in the wardrobe .... but they don't so again, out of season stuff live in their boxes under my bed, piled up in the corner, in the hall
I really don't have that much stuff & I do live by the 'one in, one out' rule which is so much less painful now that I buy most of my stuff from ebay.
It doesn't hurt my heart, purse or the planet to buy something for a tenner, wear it for a few months, or a couple of years, & then pass or charitize it on when I'm bored with it. DD1 & I often swap stuff too, she's had 4 dresses & a couple of tops from me recently & she passes her old stuff on to littlest DD.
Much as I love the stuff on that website that Rosa discovered, I just cannot spend £70+ on a single dress; my income to disposable expenditure ratio doesn't allow for that sort of indulgence. I prefer to buy quality stuff 'pre-loved', rather than cheap brand new; other than t-shirts or undies; they have to be new, not necessarily cheap though . .
I was watching Mary Portas last night, and love her determination to bring back British clothes manufacturing. I had no idea that Nottingham was the centre of lace-making . .
We do need to think about the fact that the reason we're getting such cheap clothes, is at the expense of some poor person's appalling pay, living & working conditions. And for those of you who love designer labels, may I direct you towards Naomi Klein's book No Logo. Much designer stuff is made in factories alongside cheap, supermarket or high street clothes, the consumer just pays more. How does that make you feel, robbed perchance ?
I'm no saint, I do covet a Lulu Guinness handbag & hope that one day I'll have one, just one, but it will be loved, cherished & buried with me if I have my way, or probably ripped from my cold dead hands by the DDs if they have theirs :rotfl:
Now that I have my new boots which were way cheaper than expected & should last a while, I might actually divert the £2 coin fund towards a Bag Fund . .
Can't remember why I came on here now ... ah well, off to browse through diaries

I downbranded quite a lot over the last 12mths and discovered there was no difference between jeans that cost £30 or £12 and then less in the sale. I feel bad about working conditions being poor but what can I do about this, not buy and profits and wages reduce?
Back to the no difference between high brand and lower brands. It clicked when I realised that there weren't separate factories to make all these items in. Confirmed when I watched a couple of programmes that showed in factories the different boxes of the different brands all made in one place by the same people. The only difference was the name (sunglasses and jeans)
So, its carrying on with the mainly cheap clothing which is working out pretty well so far.
Good luck Lula on your cheap clothing hunt - I'm off to collect a per una top for £12 today which started off at £35. Hope it looks nice as its very different to what I'd normally go for :cool:final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550

Just popping in for a quick rant
Email system at work went down last week & we lost 2 weeks worth of emails - including all the ones re the exhibition that I found & suggested we attend as a great networking opportunity ... the Goblin assurexd out techie guy that it wasn't necessary to retrieve anyone other than the Bosses emails as they were not important.
Gropey has been off sick for the last 2 weeks & I've not mentioned the exhibition to anyone else at all, as he & I were dealing with it together & he'd said that he needed to speak with Grumpy before going ahead & booking it.
I've just been searching for other info on Grumpys' 'puter & happened to see an email from The Goblin about this exhibition ...
& just this minute heard her talking to someone about not having yet received an invoice for the stand .
So, it looks like they've gone ahead & booked the stand, she's been dealing with it all & no one has even mentioned it to me :eek::mad:.
If she ends up going to this exhibition along with the bosses & I'm left totally out of it, I may well lose it completely.
I am on the verge of combustion.
Otherwise fine & will be back soon with money news ....

Grr to the Goblin - muscling in on your ideas. Hex on the woman!
I haven't bought any new clothes for ages - still have my designer stuff in the wardrobe (none of it bought at full price I hasten to add) which I mix and match with stuff from Primarni and ancient clothes from long ago. I am still wearing a cardigan that I bought when I was 21 (it was a one size fits all type) - I shall be 51 next birthday:eek: Plus I still wear the mohair cardigan that mum knitted me back in the early 1980's:eek:
Mum's are wonderful - mine is now paying for a decorator for the new house as well as buying new light fittings and shades. On Friday we went to Aldi and came home with a runner that will go in the side lobby, on Thursday she is going to Aldi again to buy a toilet brush and a bin for my bathroom along with a white bathroom mat. The bathroom in the house is blue/green (most of my towels are beige or chocolate brown:() plus it is carpetted (I hates carpet in bathrooms and loos so as soon as I am able I will have the carpet removed and will lay vinyl instead). I had some spends this week - food for stock cupboard and a couple of door wedges (too lazy to carry heavy doorstops) and a double mattress protector as I need a new one. I rarely venture into Tatco:j
Mum is doing a lot for me - I get fed every Sunday plus she buys odd bits for me too which makes me feel guilty because she and dad are pensioners who should be enjoying their cash rather than spending it on me.
Now awaiting my decree nisi and then I can go for the decree absolute and be rid of 'im indoors for ever.:j0
