I am going to buy kidney beans, asda has three different brands, smartprice 14p,asda 35p and green giant 27p.
Is there any difference other than price?
I haven't used kidney beans for years and my only concern is buying some that are tough, bought cannellini beans last week and they were too hard after cooking them as per recipe,I suppose I am used to baked bean softness lol.0 -

I've found the only difference between cheap and expensive beans is that in the cheaper tins, some beans were broken in 2. It doesn't bother me at all and doesn't make a difference to the finished dish. I suppose if I had friends over I might go for the more expensive ones.
If you simmer rather than boil the beans then they shouldn't become tough.0 -
Chick peas-if I blended them, can I freeze them? I want to portion them up to use to bulk up mince.

might be best in a slow cooker - unless you are going to use expensive/tender cuts?'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0

no longer have my slow-cooker, it died about a year ago. I didn't use it enough to justify a new one......
however, have re-read some of C_Q's original thread and she mentions a cooking method which i think will work well with the lamb - just finishing it off in the final dish.
will let you know how it all goes next weekend xr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
