The reference to protection???
The thing you would lose if the garage went bang would not be the car, but the waranty. Remember you will have paid that,;);) realise it or not.
Depends on whether or not they get you to sign the purchase invoice or not when you pay the balance.0 -
Check the car over and make sure everything is in order before making the payment. Any work that needed doing and was agreed should be shown.
A lot of dealers will try to get you to pay inside before they take you outside to get the car. Do the deal on your terms!

I would be extremely surprised if the dealership absorbed the approx 2% credit card transaction cost to them.
I bought my Corsa 2 year ago, just a few months old and the CC transaction fee was absorbed because I'm a good haggler.:Dmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

No, the transaction fee was absorbed because the salesman had enough room in his profit margin to do so - which suggests you arent a good haggler....
You did pay it, just not directly.0 -
I'm picking up a car next week and paying by debit card. The dealer said I could drive it away immediately. I thought that was the whole point of debit cards.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

IF the O/P paid for the car via a debit card, but there was no invoice raised and signed at that point, then the car dealership would have the money and there would be no documentation assigning ownership to the O/P.
If the dealership then went bust between the payment and the handover, i doubt the Receivers would pay out. Certainly not easily anyway.
A minor minor technicality.0
