Wonderful luck. GD would have been one of those tiny boys from the London slums who looked after the horses and a pair of new boots and a meal was something they could only dream of just a couple of months previously.

A completely different life, but neither exempt from the horrors of what they saw.

I just cannot comprehend what it must have like..... So nice to hear a story of man and horse both returning home, but how many didn't make it?

I was brought up in the 80's, and like I said I just literally cannot imagine what it must have been like.....

ETA - I've tried - but I have no comparable experience to draw upon.....
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

They've been doing this for years, the purple poppies. I don't think they are an actual charity, but they do do a lot of good work (it's not a scam or something). I often see their campaigns on various animal cruelty issues.

Im sure they do but also theres people like myself who thought " poppies - charity" and might not realise no monies are going to charity

Still its nice to hear there are those that remember war animals - in particular the horses. I dont think anyone whos seen the stage show could not be moved to tears

Im looking forward to seeing the film released next year

I have been desperate to get my hands on a copy of the book War Horse for months and months!

Saw Private Peaceful on stage early on this year - wow!

When I heard about War Horse - Well - I just need to read it! Saw an ad on the telly for the stage show - well out of my league at the mo, but Oh My Word it looked bloody amazing!!
