Switching from O2 to Sky or Orange

Hi,

Just a quick question for you experts on here,

I have just moved here so wasn't too sure of the different providers/ISPs in the UK so would appreciate some help.

Basically I signed up with O2 however am not really getting the speeds I am desiring (around 2.8-3.8 M/Bits) I am still in my grace period for a couple more days so have the option cancel without charge.

After abit of research Sky or Orange are the next next best bets, will I get get much of an improvement in terms of speed with them?

I will post my stats below, I mean if I am indeed asking for too much and it's a infrastructure problem which changing ISPs will not solve then I would rather stick with O2 as I have my mobile with them and they have actually been quite good in terms of customer service.

Thanks for your time and help in advance.

Cheers

Take a look at that and follow the guide to investigate for any line or equipment problems.

G.992.3 means you have connected at ADSL2 rather than the normal ADSL2+ (G.992.5) for O2/BE. This suggests there was noise when the modem connected.

Your attenuation suggests you should get about 5.5meg, so you're below average but not hugely so. Whilst you might get a little more speed, you won't get massively more without going to Virgin cable (if it is available) - whichever ISP you choose.

Note: the max down speed you'll get is about 85% of the sync speed due to overheads. And the actual speed will also depend on where you are downloading from. Don't let speedtest.net rule your life. ;)

Edit: If you do decide to switch, I would suggest Sky over Orange. Orange (and TalkTalk) are usually at or near the bottom of customer service surveys.
  • Thanks for your prompt reply and direction.

I tried a few of those things the quiet line test seemed fine and the connection is back on the G.992.5 so the line is ok I think.

If there would not be too big of a difference (I was hoping around 10 m/bits) if I changed provider then I might stick with O2 because they are quite abit cheaper than the others.

    Cheers Thanks Again

10 meg on your line will never happen - its too long. :(

You're probably best sticking with O2 as you say. :)
