The search for truth is a uniquely human activity, and plays no part in nature's big idea
The search for truth (political, economic or religious) leads only to conflict, destruction and human misery
The only truths are the laws of nature, and the more we 'understand', the further we get from any kind of resolution
A simpler question is 'why did nature allow the human race?'
The answer is 'because nature doesn't care'
The human race has existed for almost no time at all in the grand scheme of things, and is rushing towards its own self-destruction
The disappearance of the human race will be no more and no less significant than the disappearance of the dinosaurs or the neanderthals

@ TruckerT
we share/host the genes of our ancestors within our bodies.
What our brains think is immaterial. If enough people learn to co-operate, avoid getting prematurely dead , then the genes can make progress through time.

That's the tricky bit - in nature, survival depends on selfishness
Only humans beat themselves up about it...

I think it was quite by chance that the banks discovered their absolute power to bring down a capitalist economy
I think it was quite by chance that the anti-capitalist protestors discovered their potential to bring down a major component of the UK Establishment
I think it is quite by chance that we are discovering the impotence of our leaders to deal with our current woes
I think it is a matter of chance as to which form of extremism will succeed in 'filling the void'

Has it occurred to anyone that we now have two member nations of the Eurozone under the rule of non-elected governments whose stated aim is to impose their will upon the financial affairs of their home nation?
It remains clear that other European nations are at risk of becoming ruled by similar dictatorships

Trucker, this is the age old problem. Are we better off being ruled by dictators or idiots voted in by Furbies?0 -

It used to be the case that bankers controlled the money, whilst politicians controlled governments, and a useful compromise was usually reached
But right now, the banks are in complete control, and demanding more protection money than the Kray twins ever dreamed of

Do you ever talk in anything other than bland platitudes, Trucker?
Contrary to your perception they don't make you look insightful. They make you look like you take them out of some tedious left wing magazine and that you have no original thoughts of your own.0 -
Bland platitudes are capable of generating hot air, it seems - there was a guy on Newsnight last night, speaking for the bankers, who tried to blame the last UK government for the unrest across America, as well as the European deficits etc etc. At one point, he even tried to bring in the name of the unknown Ed Milliband f'chrissake
The Newsnight person more or less laughed at him - I wonder what magazines bankers read...
