Unlocked phone compatibility with 3

I'm locked into a contract with 3 and need to get a new handset. As some of you may know being a loyal customer of 3 doesn't always work in your favour and loyalty discounts work against you when needing a new handset when your on an old contract.

I've been thinking about getting a second hand unlocked phone and using my 3 SIM which wasn't possible before but I'm told a 3 SIM will work in any 3g unlocked phone.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this, whether this is possible and if you'd loose any features on an iphone or android phone using a 3 SIM in an unlocked phone?

and does someone know the difference between unlocking and jailbreaking and what implications there might be?

It is possible to use your sim in any unlocked android or iPhone and you don't lose anything. iPhone 4 needs a micro sim and you will have to either cut your sim or request a replacement from '3'.

You may consider getting a temporary free handset until the end of your contract: £10 1 month rolling contract with android phone - it's not an android in fact, but it's free even ignoring the cashback.
