Do Greek voters think they can just go on spending more than they earn forever?

If that is the case (as it appears to be) then the referendum is foregone conclusion.

You hit the neal on its head. This crisis is about uncompetitive economies overspending. I hope the Greeks find reason.

Speaking to someone who lived in Greece for many years, it is way beyond uncompetitive. In general downright lazy and with a massive sense of entitlement would be closer to the mark. Difficult to turn anything around if that is what you are working with.

Still they get a referendum and we don't get anything
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

    Ironic really.

They get a referendum which could literrally bring the country to it's knees. Ultimately though, it already is. Maybe that's part of the plan, blame the greek people for the default, rather than the euro politicians who "could have" saved it. Seems an easy way out for politicians in one way....but I guess to them, their precious dream is worth more than that to them.

Wonder where the top euro politicians really stand on this one. Any hard default is easily blamed on the greek people themselves.

We just keep being told any referendum in the UK, regardless of what its for, remember the ID saga...isn't in our interests!

Although constitutionally no referendum is required by any Government in the UK, nor would be binding.

ID cards were scrapped in the end anyway.

    Strange lot the Greeks.
They have if effect been living off German money for quite a while, and they hate the Germans for it.

I want a referendum so that I don't have to repay my mortgage.

Don't think I would vote for just you not having to repay your mortgage, even though it would probably not hurt the economy that much.
