Motability car and winter snow?

Snow tyres are not just for use in snow, they are for anytime the temperature is below 7 degrees. They are better than normal tyres not just in snow but on frosty mornings, etc. People may have used them and not noticed a difference, but there is plenty of evidence out there showing the difference in how well the tyres grip.
The main question I'm thinking for this winter is can I justify the cost of fitting them for the extra stability, or should I try and drive more carefully and safe the money.0 -
ixashe from someone who has used them, i used to drive 120k a year backwards and forwards to europe in all weathers including mid winter. a normal everyday driver will NOT notice any benefit whatsoever of having winter tyres in the uk. you can still get stuck, you can still slide and still skid just as much with them, and the ones i had each year wernt cheap rubbish ones they were very good ones on a 3.5t panel van.
winter driving is about as you suggested taking extra care, allowing extra time and allowing for extra stopping distance . normal tyres should have decent amount of tread on them though. as an eg winter tyres should be replaced when they get to 4mm tread depth whereas the uk legal limit tread depth for all season tyres is 1.6mm .personally i am now happy with all seasons with decent tread depth for winter and some common sense.0 -

I've arrived here at about 10 to a dozen useless point less DUPS - so I've deliberately ~~~ snipped ~~~ your repetitive and now devalued rubbish
I speak for myself .. .. others may disagree, others may feel the same but say nothing, I choose to speak out !
heater, you have chosen to indiscriminately splatter your post across all threads, dredging up non-live ones in the process making the reading of the group a frustrating chore.
Your intention was good, your method is bad, start your own new thread header in the proper acceptable manner and give those of us here a choice [ which you have now denied [STRIKE]the group[/STRIKE] me ] to tag and follow the threads I [STRIKE]we[/STRIKE] choose rather than you deciding for [STRIKE]us[/STRIKE] myself what [STRIKE]we[/STRIKE] I read - that style of gerrymandering the threads for your own purpose takes away my right to choose what I read and what I don't.
EDIT1 - I've now done a global 'all read' for this group .. absolutely a pointless waste of the worlds alphabet and my time .. .. each new live thread is the same~same
EDIT2 - I have not clicked the spam putton, and encourage others not to do so, (1) if you look at heaters post record there were dozens or even many dozens and (2) if the MODS remove only the spam # number that's ok .. .. but what usually happens as regular posters will know is (3) many original posts and the chronological reply order of any of the dozens of threads disappears along with the spam .. .. making the thread unintelligible, and resulting in any value the thread offered to the O/P's question value~less.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem.
