T-Mobile and Orange 3G sharing.
Options
If you are a T-Mobile or Orange customer I have good news. The networks have rolled out 3G network sharing. If you can't get a 3G signal on one network, you can hop onto the other one if there is one available.
You may need to specify in your phone settings that you only want a 3G connection to get this working properly or your phone will default to your operator's 2G network.
Since joining T-Mobile (Orange is way too expensive), I have enjoyed have a decent signal wherever I go. Depending on your phone model, you will see:
T-Mobile
Orange
Orange T-Mobile T-Mobile signal
T-Mobile Orange Orange signal.
3G T-Mobile
3G Orange
3G Orange T-Mobile New!
3G T-Mobile Orange New!
You may not see a 3G in front of the network name on some phones so may need to check your network information in settings.

Nope, don't work for me yet, still 2G only.0

It's region specific at the moment. Scotland and SW England/SE Wales are covered at present. More to come soon.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

He works for them I think0

No, but I was agency cattle at an Orange call centre once. They are not interested in customer service and value call time targets more than helpfulness.
Yes, 3g sharing has come to most parts of South West. I receive a "3G T-Mobile Orange" down here in Devon.
Here's the evidence:

There are rumours that Everything Everywhere want to turn Orange into a premium brand and T-Mobile a value one.0 -

If by premium brand they mean expensive with poor value for money then they're well on their way already.0 -

Poor value for money, yes!
T-Mobile share their signal masts with 3, so you benefit from a reasonable 3G network. Orange still maintain their own masts in this respect.0 -
Im on Tmobile & Orange's 3g share was switched on in Aberdeen yesterday.Much better now!0
