Does anyone have any recommendations on the best choices for tracking one's children's mobiles, please ?

Too expensive I'm sure, but iPhones have it built in for iOS 5. My daughter has a second-hand 3GS and we can see where she is. And her us of course.

There has been one divorce caused by it so far I believe :)

If your children don't mind getting tracked buy them cheap android phones or Blackberry and use Google Latitude app. AFAIK you'll be able to see their location either on your android/iPhone/BB or on a PC.

Nothing is 100% reliable (even Apple's iOS5 app) as there are times when it will declare your child is 'Not Found'. Yet 15 minutes later and they walk through the door, it shows them back. For the chargeable services, it remains a ROUGH INDICATION ONLY an whilst useful in urban areas to 250mtr resolution, in the country, it can be up to 3 miles out.

Yes. When iOS 5 came out my wife and I were playing with the application.

One day she couldn't call me and couldn't locate me ... and was worried. She didn't seem to understand the correlation between they fact if I didn't have a mobile phone signal it was unlikely you'll be able to track me ...
