What is your ebay id Kev?

I would like to bar you from bidding on any of my auctions and I would also like to avoid yours.:D

Pray that the buyer does not turn up on your door step and invite you for a game of baseball in the garden.

Sorry but that is exactly the kind of dishonesty that ruins ebay!

Imagine if the boot was on the other foot and you had won an item at a bargain price (the whole reason we all belong to this site!) and the seller refused to sell the item cos they wanted more money for it. You would be pretty mad!

So take the hit and learn the lesson to use reserve prices in future if you're not prepared to let items go for less than a certain amount

But as a buyer I think you need to be a clever MSE'r.
I buy from ebay to sell and I try and weigh up wether I think a seller will let an item go at the price I predict it's gonna sell for i.e I look for badly listed items.
I look at their feedback and try to ascertain if they would be willing to take a neg and not sell or if they are obsessive about maintaining a 100% or there abouts rating.
If I don't think they are too fussed about their feedback I will bid against myself to get it to a price I think they will be prepared to sell at and a price that I can still make a decent profit on.
The fact that the OP was naive in his listing but not so naive when it comes down to hard cash sought of proves my theory.
Like someone has said earlier in the thread ebay isn't a TRUE auction site and the hammer never really drops.

You have to bear in mind that eBay auctions are a place where people look to get a bargain generally. If you sell in the auction format, then unless you are obviously a business seller, you're unlikely to get the full market price for whatever you're selling. Especially at £3k .. it's too much of a risk for people to chance that much.

As for selling or not selling - it's very unlikely that there would be any repercussions more serious than just a negative on your account, and a strike against your record. And bear in mind that this will count very much against you if you try to sell it again - especially if bidders look and see that you refused to sell it to the highest bidder last time round.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...

Is that Queensberry rules baseball or Belfast baseball?
C'mon guy made a mistake listing and he's not obsessed about his feedback rating so he's gonna take a feedback hit and not make the same mistake next time round.
    Fair enough really .......me thinks

    Fair enough?

    The seller is being UNFAIR.

Try looking at it from the buyers point of view. He presumably bid in good faith and may have passed up the opportunity to buy a similar item. He is quite possibly livid.

My sympathies are entirely with the buyer.

But the buyer isn't an MSE'r tribal loyalties and all that - something I imagine we both understand.

btw "loyalties" wasn't a pun just couldn't think of a better phrase ;+)
