Buyer hasn't paid postage. How?

I had a buyer who took 5 days to pay for the item. More fool me (again, can you tell I am new to this?) but I just took the 'payment sent' at face value and have sent the blooming item out.
Should have logged on to paypal, shouldn't I?
I have mailed her tonight while the parcel is en route telling her I will post it when I get postage payment (bluff, it's already sent). You never know...
But how did the buyer manage to not pay postage? Does that have to be done deliberately or did I do something? How was it marked as payment received when it wasn't? Does this mean someone could pay £1 towards an item and it would flag the item as 'payment received'? Do I have any comeback at all?

At a guess the buyer amended the postage on an invoice you sent, or selected collection when buying (if you had that as an option).
Buyer cant amend the item amount on the invoice, only the postage, so no they couldn't pay a £1.
To stop buyers amending the postage on an invoice:-
My eBay > Account > Site Preferences
Under Payment from buyers > Click on the 'Show link' to the right > Edit > UNTICK the Buyer Edit Option' > Submit.0

IIRC as a buyer you can go to your purchase history, and then under the 'more options' bit next to a purchase there is a 'mark as payment sent' option i think, so if you dont chec your paypal they can just say they've paid when they havent
I cant remember for sure as I usually pay straight away so I cant check
I ALWAYS log in and check that the money is in my paypal accountI'm not a bloke! :rotfl:My real name is Sinead, Sid is my nickname :rotfl:0

Buyers can mark what they want on their won page, however it will not record as paid unless they make a payment via paypal. Since sellers need to check the paypal payment to get the address it makes no difference what a buyer says he or she has done.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. At best it will show an egg timer with the legend 'buyer has marked this as payment sent', and as seller would need to check paypal address it doesn't help a scamming buyer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You don't need to do that anymore. Ebay have confirmed that the address that is showing on the ebay sales page is the Paypal address that was selected at the payment stage. You can safely print invoices/addresses from ebay without worrying that the address is different to their Paypal address.Since sellers need to check the paypal payment to get the address ...0

The system though cannot know what address the buyer has chosen in paypal. I bought something last week and so the sale page showed my home address. I have my mothers address in paypal and so choose to have the item sent there direct- but as there was a delay between winning the item and paying they cannot possibly be linked.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Not sure what you mean there? When you pay for the item, even if it is much later than winning it, you go through a bit in the payment where you confirm your Paypal payment, but you stay on the ebay site. There is the option there to select another address - these are the addresses you have in Paypal.but as there was a delay between winning the item and paying they cannot possibly be linked.0

Interestingly enough, while looking for a link to info regarding the addresses being the same I found this instead...The buyer has conflicting addresses between eBay and PayPal. Which one do I use?
If there is a conflict between addresses listed on the PayPal "transaction details" page and the eBay "view order details" page, we'll consider sellers to have met their shipping obligations under eBay Buyer Protection if they choose either address.

This is sort of what I was looking for, although its now a moot point based on my post above...Why are my PayPal shipping addresses attached to my eBay account?
PayPal and eBay have an integrated payment process which makes your checkout easier and more convenient. You can select which PayPal shipping address you wish to have your item sent to from your eBay account.
