Red. Light. Means. Stop.
Yes, its sensible to check the road even if you have a green man flashing at a pedestrian crossing, but the fact that you think you have the right to ignore the rules is so incredibly arrogant...you do realise the law wouldn't agree with you if you actually did hit and seriously injure someone?
where are you seeing mention of going through a red light?0 -
Its like some cyclists have a deathwish out on themselves. I have seen or just about seen so many at night with no lights and dark clothing on? Dont they want to live? Their lives are in danger they cant be easily seen?
lights and high viz only do so much.
I have a full complement of lights, reflectors and reflective gear
my main front light throws out some serious power and is brighter than dipped car headlights.
however near death experiences are common on my daily 20 mile commute0 -

interesting take given the subject of your post.
I don't rate a thread from this month as resurrected0 -
I ride on a joint bike/pedestrian path on my way into work, and I use my bell if I encounter a pedestrian. The only problems are if I end up following someone wearing headphones (which is pretty common these days) and I then have to get off and push).
I also regularly encounter numpties who step off the pavement right in front of me, because they haven't heard me - it always happens in one particular place and so I can anticipate it - and I like to screech my brakes and wobble a bit in front of them because it gives them a bit of a scare.
My husband was knocked off his bike by a car pulling out of a side-street. He was cycling up hill on a straight road in broad daylight, and ended up flying over the bonnet. As he was lying in the street with buses squeezing past inches from his head, he was surprised to find that passing pedestrians were far more interested in comforting the driver than in trying to find out if he was OK. Needless to say, he hasn't cycled since.
My own near-death experience was when a van turned left sharply without bothering to check his inside, and I ended up sprawled in the road with cars screeching to a halt behind me. I also know people who have been killed in hit-and-run type incidents.0
