To use one I was advised that you would need to position the unit in an area that is not covered by the heating element, usually to lower left and right of the screen on Fords.

I have a ford escort with heated front sreen and have been told that if it will not interfere with the speed detectors..i dont have one but was thinking of getting one..does anyone know if you have to pay a subsrription for this model?0 -
Could anyone possibly give me some websites where these devices have been reviewed as there are so many on the market its difficult to know which ones actually work and which dont! Cheers.0

As this is a combined GPS, laser and radar detector, since it is a strong possibility that laser and radar detectors (but not GPS) will be made illegal soon, is it a bargain?

Also as laser detectors are a waste of time (if it bleeps, you have been nicked) and few police forces use radar these days (and it will drive you mad in town), if I was in the market for a speed camera detector it would be a GPS only one.0 -
I have TomTom GPS POI camera database. Will this offer me any extra protection??Filiss0

Hi folks, please try to keep this on topic, and if you want a separate discussion on the rights and wrongs of these things, then take it over to the discussion time board.

I used to buy & sell speed camera & gps systems so im a bit of an expert on them. A radar detector will do just that. It will warn you whenever it detects a radar signal. Most radar detectors also have a laser detector built in, so again, you get warned when it picks up a laser signal.
Your GPS system wont do that. On the other hand, your GPS system should warn you where every FIXED position speed camera is, which is handy as most new speed cameras are truvelo ones which use infra-red rather than radar.
Ideally, like myself, you`d use both. I have a top of the range radar/laser detector and a GPS speed camara warning system. I happen to pass 12 speed cameras plus the mobile police trap every day on the way to work & back. Co-incidentally i dont bother using my devices on my work comute as im always stuck in stationary traffic whenever im under any of those cameras! Go Figure!
The argument of whether radar detectors should be legal or not is an old one. The police claim speed cameras arnt there to nick speeding motorists, but to warn motorists of accident black spots. As the statistics prove, speed isnt the main factor in accidents. Inappropiate speed is. So, I could be doing 70mph in a 70mph zone and still be driving dangerously although im not speeding. I see a speed camera and (as the police claim) it warns me that this is an accident black spot, so i can take extra care.
Surely the radar detector is doing exactly the same? Im doing 70 in a 70, it beeps at me, so i know its an accident black spot without having to keep an eye out for speed cameras to realise this?!
If anyone is thinking of getting a radar detector, i hasten to add that they arnt very useful these days. The range on them isnt very good mainly because some speedcameras give off such a weak signal you cant pick it up until you are on top of it. Also, the laser alert is a bit silly as by the time its warned you, the police already have your speed on their gun. Also, on my commute 1/4 of the speed cameras only use radar, the others use infra-red. So, really you are better off saving your cash and going for a GPS system instead, which will warn you off all fixed cameras but not the mobile traps.0 -
Hi,
Just nice to be able to post something that somebody saved some money on - ( forgetting the politics to one side ) so thanks for the thanks.

well...got my Snooper Neo 3 today...I'll let you know how reliable it is....
from a short drive though, im not 100% convinced. Sounded an alarm half way up one road where there is no camera (unless there was a mobile one hiding somewhere!)
Then, I though I would test it on a static camera I know. Nothing - no alert, yet coming the other way through the camera it warned me. The camera monitors both sides of the road - so not too sure how reliable this is yet.
My main conern are the mobile camera's (lasers) as I dont know where they are!To Stooze or Not To Stooze - Theres only one option
