Embarrassing trick or treat experience.

I spent the early evening making up really sweet little gift wrapped packages with cool Halloween stuff for the Trick or Treaters - lots of the mums commented on how lovely they are and the kids got really excited when they saw how sparkly they were and they are filled with cool things like popping candy etc. So sweet little deed for the day done.
This is how karma paid me back. I answer the door to a girl I went to school with, from the year above, and she had her kids with her and some other mums, some whom I went school with. This girl was pretty nasty to me growing up, I really looked up to her as she was clever and pretty and I'd always be nice to her as she was my cousins best friend too. When I was around 9 I just wanted to play with her and my cousin when I was at my Grandparents but she always excluded me. As a teenager she would say I was fat (I was 7 stone) and humiliate me whenever I got dressed up for a party. You get the picture, she was not very nice and I was a mug. So I open the door, we make small talk and she says " you look so good in your witches costume by the way. It's so different. Where did you get it?"
This is probably the point I should mention I'm not wearing a costume. the other mums looked embarrassed.
"it's not a witches costume," I say.
"Oh, sorry, I mean your vampire costume. Or, wait! No, sorry, your bat costume! I didn't realise at first that you were a bat."
By this point, I wanted to disappear under the floor. One of the other mums started to tug her and try to whisper to her but she just stood there looking at me head to toe, looking puzzled.
I told her, "this isn't a costume, this is just what I'm wearing today." She didn't even apologise or look embarrassed. The other mums were looking on horrified at her and started to move on, thanking me profusely for the parcels.
I feel a bit put out. I am wearing a cream and navy lace tunic top, leggings and cream shoes - I don't see how I could be mistaken for a witch but it seemed genuine on her behalf. I feel really paranoid now, like I look like a Halloween character on a daily basis or something!

i dont think you should be embarrassed, in fact i think you should be thrilled! shes just outed herself as a massive !!!!! in front of other mothers. mothers who talk. do you think that after witnessing that they will want their kids anywhere near that kind of person? nope. shes just bought her and her kids a one way ticket into obscurity!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. You should have gone "Oh thanks, and your crooked nose looks really life-like! Amazing what they can do with latex these days." (or something).
Don't be embarrassed, she's an idiot.Well done for the parcels, sounds lovely!

Your outfit sounds unusual to me - but not in a spooky way. It's not a huge issue, surely? She said you looked good!
And she didn't know what your secret to looking good was.

You have no need to be embarrassed.
She was the one who needs to be embarrassed for her ridiculous and childish behaviour.
And you were by far the bigger person for not being rude back to her infront of the children.0 -
Is she usually socially stupid?? Sounds like she's still got that nasty streak she had when you were younger.0

hun - you SHOULD be rofl! this stupid woman just made herself look incredibly beetchy in front of her friends and kids! this will be all around the school tomorrow! and YOU are not going to be the one they are gossiping about! Oh boy - now all her friends will look at her in a different light!
The other mums will all have realised there was something going on - and believe me hun, as she was the beetch and YOU had done something wonderful for their kids - its not going to be you who will get the flack!
dont worry about it - the phrase 'hoist with her own petard' comes to mind!0 -
She knew you weren't wearing a costume and was just being a cow. Clearly her emotional development stopped at about age 13. Pity her kids to be honest. What chance have they got!
I wouldn't give it a moments thought. If it's any consolation, my DS dressed as Harry Potter for world book day a few years ago and one of the dads asked if I was also dressed up as Professor McGOnegal. (I wasn't, but had a haircut that afternoon)

she is so busted, and your parcels will be the best thing of every single kids collection (feels slight shame for palming off the chocs I didn't like)0
