I would go for the Sainsburys deal at £155, and then buy the Hardened edition of MW3 for as cheap as you can get it (apparently instore at Tesco for £69.99) which I know brings the total to £225, but the hardened edition includes membership of COD:Elite for one year, along with all the DLC for MW3 (normally 4-5 map packs over the next 12 months and they cost about £12 each). All new consoles ship with one month Xbox Live Gold membership and most games with a multiplayer function will have the same. Hunt around for xbox live and you can get a one year gold sub for about £31. All in it will cost ~£255.
If you get the deal in Game, you will pay for the console, all the DLC (the free MW3 game will be the ordinary edition), and the XBL sub. That's going to bring the total to about £350. Like you say, you'd be paying £100 for a paint job, and when he's playing online, the last thing he will be looking at is the case for his Xbox.
It's unlikely he will need the extra 70Gb of memory, and aftermarket controllers are about £15 each if he really needs one. I'd have a chat to him (I assume he's old enough to know about 'Santa') and point out that your option (the cheaper one
) is going to give him more without having to moan at you to buy new map packs etc.
Thank you for your advice! I've got a Sainsbury console put by to collect at the weekend, and we'll get the Hardened edition, it makes more sense:)0 -
I went to get mine this afternoon and noticed there were two slightly different 250gb consoles, finally went for the one that said GO on it as it look a bit slimmer. Chuffed with the price:)0

Were there any deals if you bought kinect with the 250gb? I think I need the 250gb as although it will be mainly DDs, DH wants to be able to play on xbox live too.0

I can't decide between PS3 and Xbox 360 - any opinions?
NB. I get mild arthritis in my left thumb so does anyone has an opinion on which console's controller is better for me?0 -

Sound like you need to stop playing consoles or buy a Wii which requires no thumb action, but is also no fun
