Dial-up

Options
I have been with Pipex for the last year but this was a birthday gift fully paid for 1 year.
I don't want to be off the internet but wonder what is the very cheapest way of staying on.
I have tried dial-up before broadband and thought that I could never go back to it but if it's cheaper I will have to. Can anyone tell me if it's better now. I know I can get cheaper broadband than Pipex but anything I pay will be an extra cost that I can't really afford, I have been spoilt last year because of the gift.
Any advice will be appreciated, Thanks.

One of the cheapest would be wwwfast4.net at £6.99 unlimited. Not sure how good it is. Check out the diary? Used to be V21!

Actually it is still part of V21. Fast4 is super during daytime, but in the evenings it sometimes takes a few trys to get connected, but recently it has been great. For £6.99 per month unlimited, including calls it is probably the best dial-up value around. The best thing is it is a one month contract, so you can try it out, and drop it after 1 month if not happy !!!

cheghead and theloft, thanks for replies, sounds OK but I get ratty if I can't connect. I've been having a bit of a problem even with Pipex broadband just towards the latter end of my year.

You can always use a PAYG dial-up as back-up (local call rate or if you can find out the geographic number and use 18866 - even cheaper). https://www.aardvaak.net. or https://www.supanet.com are two of them.

If you are going back to dial up I would recommend trying Firefox instead of IE as it is much faster for browsing. I used it when on dial up and noticed a big difference :D

Has anyone or website compiled a list of pay as you go ISPs that can be dialled for free using 1899 (UK, US, Canada or germany) with geographical access numbers rather than 0845XXXXXX. I don't need broadband and as dial-ups are no longer such a great value for money, using the 0845 is a real rip off I find.
