even billy no mates should know a garage that does a fair test for a fair price
recommended retail was done away years ago but vosa tried to reintroduce this when the computerised system came on line, they tried to tell all mot stations they would get away with charging full recommended retail but fortunately in rip off britain us motorists rebelled and went to men that realised the old price was still a reasonable mark up
my mot garage charges £35 retail or trade and repairs cars and are 100% trustworthy0 -
Halfords are doing it for £27 if u book online.. Any comments about them?
Just a hunch!0 -
Always Council Centre for me.
£50 is the norm for them and I would much rather pay that than use Halfrauds or Kwikhit.
You might want it cheaper, but I suspect it will cost you more....0 -
My car is booked in for it's MOT in a few weeks in the council ran center in town. It's £54. This is fair. The reason i believe this is because the mechanics at the depot are very skilled, and are not out to make the business profit by upselling on parts you don't need. The guy who even takes your details and books your MOT in at Halfords is on a commission to sell you extra. The council ran garages will fail you if your car is not road worthy, simple as that. If you do fail, you can take it elsewhere to get your repair done, and take it back within ten days to get your MOT certificate.
It works for me.0 -
of course an mot garage that does do repair work is also more able to know models and weak points and can give a fairer mot due to knowledge and or pickup potential danger pointers a place that only tests could easily miss if it had not been bulletined from vosa
think about it0 -
can give a fairer mot
It's not fairer though is it, if you take your car to a large chain, which was what i was getting at in my point above. Of course if you can find a 100% decent independent garage, that do what is required and don't rip people off, then that's great, and you obviously have so well done you. Some of us haven't and choose to take the council ran route as it is fair, and i don't fully take you point about knowing makes and models. All of the council ran garages i've been to have total experts working there, who really know their stuff.0
