I hope it works!
But, I already know it won't be 'serviceable'. £5.5k annually simply won't cut it and nobody will hire her. She went a big company for an interview, she'd worked for them several times from an agency and they even began requesting her as she was very helpful in helping to set up two new offices (or teams in parts of an office to deal with a new service) and she was really good at it as she has experience in it.
Went back for an interview in the summer and they weren't interested. Actually happened to hire the youngest person there (obviously not simply for age) but she wouldn't have had the experience, but she wouldn't have been drawing on her pension any time in the next 10 years. So another job really seems to be out of the question, but she's still trying. The agencies aren't interested now she's working now anyway.0 -
I think you're doing really well with all this - I could do with you coming here and organising us!
I know it would be a lot to take on, but to me it makes sense if one person (and it looks like you) is taking hold of this and dealing with it for your Mum. Creditors will get confused if they have to deal with more than one family member (I suspect) so you might have to be the 'voice' for the family. Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Well I just suggested some of the things to Mum about what my POA (Plan of Action) is going to be, and she has no choice about falling in line with it.
She's pretty skeptical about Citizens Advice as they've been pretty poor in her visits there over a few years, but I'll force her into one, by getting her an appointment with the Money Advisor at one I've found.
I'll contact CCCS with her and see what they can do to help. She thought I was joking when I mentioned CAP (we're far from religious), but it's going to have to be an option to consider.
Just need to be more organised (something me and my GP agreed is difficult for me with this low-level depression or whatever it could be - although I scored pretty low on the PCH9 (iirc?!)). So this is going to be a challenge! But I do love a challenge.0 -
Thank you, and trust me, I would for a fee

Hello again,
Wow - I am really impressed with your resolve and attitude! I have a feeling that they wil regret taking you on in the end.;)
I am glad that you were physically OK when you went to the GP's, but someone has suggested counselling on here already and I think that as you have so much going on it would be an idea to look into this.
With regards to your Mum, perhaps you should keep bugging the GP and get them to either give her new medication or send her for conselling through the surgery. It does sound like she needs it.
Good luck with contacting everyone and making appointments.

You couldn't pay me to have counselling. (Well, it wouldn't be cheap).
Time and energy would be better utilised elsewhere.0 -
Disclaimer: I accept no responsibility for any charges/injuries incurred from falling asleep at your computer while reading this post.
However, any help/advice, with any aspect of this post will be hugely appreciated.
Brace yourselves, this is going to be a long journey...
First things first, convinced Mum to see CAB Money Advisor this/next week, so I'm going to make an appointment with them tomorrow and hopefully they can also convince her to speak to someone like CCCS or PayPlan. So that's good news..
Finally got her credit report through today.
Using it to help gather information for PPI claims - and also to see what exactly is showing as owing (if you'll excuse the rhyme). Realised a couple of mistakes on there (obviously not looking to get credit), but it's probably good practice to get them sorted alongside the money owing.
So any help with these issues would be appreciated...
Aliases
She's got 4 showing on her credit report. 3 are exactly the same;
Halifax Unsecured Loan 2005
Santander UK 2001
Black Horse Ltd. 2007
Both contain her married and maiden name, with no mistakes, in the same format.
Then the fourth one has a spelling mistake in the 'Also Known As' field where there is a typo on her maiden name, as well as it being written in a different format (e.g. Full middle name as opposed to initial).
Is that an issue when her creditors may look at her report?
Financial Associations
Associated with a small business that never went anywhere in the end.
Confirmed by Santander in 2004.
What effect does this have? Considering the business never went anywhere;
A) Would it be possible to have it removed?Would it be better to have it off the credit report?
Public Record Information
Shows 4 court judgements;- Judgement, £4567 from 2007. Unsure whether it's been paid.
- Judgement, £2286 from 2007. Believed to have been paid.
- Judgement, £ 751 from 2008. Believed to have been paid.
- Judgement, £3739 from 2009. Believed to have been paid.
Nor do they provide information as to whether the balance is outstanding or if it's been settled.
A) Would it be best, using the reference numbers, to contact the relevant courts to find out whether the balance is outstanding? Are there likely to be any additional charges at this point?
C) What would you recommend as the best Plan of Action regarding these?
Key Creditors:
Banque PSA Finance UK
Believe this to be the Car finance.
£203 paid over 37 months, although the policy started in 2005, I think they allowed a payment holiday as the account is only 1 month in arrears and only £193 to be paid.
SPML
Mortgage, Balance outstanding: £65576
Payments of £421 monthly.
Being paid regularly by my sister to ensure safety of the house.
From what I can see on here, the debts total:
£6383 (without mortgage/possible owing CCJs)
£17,726 (With all 4 CCJs)
Speculative Total (incl. Mortgage) = £83,302.
--
!!!!, that's quite an amount to deal with. Plus, we've just worked out monthly income/outgoings.
If she works only her contracted hours (she takes any overtime thats there but isn't always available), She's £100 shy of outgoings, although me and my sister cover where possible.
Any suggestions from here on in, would be lovely.0 -
Looking at it, it's pretty nice to have the figures laid out there in front of me.
Especially with the potential for them to be lowered a bit, good to know what needs to be taken on as well, hopefully we can hold them off a few months while we wait for PPI replies as I have a feeling enough would've been paid to take a big hit off the non-mortgage debts.0 -
A few last minute additions that didn't originally make the cut (as i've only just been told about them)
(approx. values)
Owing:
Water £800
TV Licence £120
BT - £250
Council Tax - £900 (They're giving us no help and charging for me despite being in education still)
Gas - £740 (they take £10/week from the meter)
TOTAL = £28100 -
Finally got hold of all bank statements letters etc. and the house to myself.
Rifling through it all and totting up some figures, already found over £2500 in bank charges.
Hoping, due to something I read on MSE mainsite, that we can claim some of these back under financial hardship as she spent a fair bit of time out of work and the fees are astronomical in comparison to the size of some of the DD's she missed. It truly left her in a cycle of debt you just can't get out of.0 -
Just found handfuls of letters with SAR's, Complaints about charges etc. dated back to the late 90's.
So I know, somewhere, in my mother, is a woman who can fight these charges.
Any chance she'll come out for 20 cigarettes and a bottle of wine?0
