we stayed at Le Croix Du Vieux, Berny-Riviere with Eurocamp 9October half term)

Just over an hour from Disney, but great facilities to entertain kids.

Stayed in the Travel Inn (Ashford) on the Friday night then took an early eurotunnel, which got us to the site for Lunchtime & a swim before we could check in.

spent 2 days at disney, didn't go into paris & on the last day spent a shorter day at Disney disn't watch the parade the 2nd day & drove straight back to Calais.

Merci beaucoup for all the replies to my post. I really appreciate all the advice and ideas and I am about to check out everything suggested. There is a lot to think about regarding driving/flying etc and since we haven't had a holiday abroad for years, I want to do my homework and get the best possible holiday for my hard earned ( saved ! ) money. There have been things suggested that I would never have come up with on my own - that's the beauty of the MSE family !

    Love to all

  • We are doing this in May.
Cheapest ferry is Speedferries from Dover to Boulogne - £57 return
We are staying in a gite through Gites de France - approx £250 for the week to sleep 6 it is only about 30km from Disney.
I agree the driving is a lot but we are staying 1 night in a travel lodge on the way there £15 and we are staying 1 night in Boulogne on the way back - hotel chain called ETAP approx £30 for the night.
Hope this is of some use

Well ! In a few days ( seems longer the amount of time I have spent in front of the 'puter ! LOL) I think I have followed every bit of advice in these forums , starting with all the suggestions in this thread. I am so glad I asked , because I have ended up booking a holiday quite different to what I had been thinking about and one that actually suits our needs this year right down to the ground. We are going camping, to La Croix du vieux pont in Berny Riviere. Other people in the forums seem to have enjoyed it there, and we are getting a FAB price booking through leisure direction

    https://www.leisuredirection.co.uk

seems to be the same as https://www.holiday-to-france.co.uk

and are saving literally hundreds on the nearest prices with anyone else.

I am going to book my ferry crossing tomorrow with Norfolkline as the prices from Dover to Dunkirk on the dates we are looking for are £19 going and £29 back ( plus £5 each way fuel supplement ). Cheapest I have found in my travels this week. It was a couple of pounds cheaper if I had booked the crossing along with the holiday, but the system kept chopping my little boy off ( he is 2 ) and I was too scared to press the button !

But I feel I have done very well. I started this week very anxious about going it alone and organising my own holiday ( instead of going to the travel agent )and I ended up having a great time checking everything out. And I found I wasn't really on my own , as I had all the MSE family to help me. So thank you , thank you, for help given, previous posts and being here in the first place ! We are having our first trip abroad for years thanks to saving and :j I am a happy bunny tonight:j :j :j :j .

    Love to all

You will love La Croix ,we stayed there in october last year and it was fab then ,although obviously outdoor pool etc was closed, but still plenty to do.

Our boys aged 10 and 4 loved it :)

Just under an hour from DLRP and a nice straightforward drive :)

    http://www.la-croix-du-vieux-pont.com/uk/

I find https://www.thedibb.com better than dis boards but both a good source of info :)

also one we used was : http://www.dlpfoodguide.com

We are hoping to stay here this year :http://www.etangsfleuris.com/en/index.html
purely becasue its closer to DLRP ( only 20 mins) its not as nice as La Croix .

Also another tip is if you collect Tesco clubcard points ? you can use them against a ferry trip or eurotunnel

we are saving ours for the Eurotunnel this year :)

    HTH

    :)

Well. I'm down from my holiday booking high from Saturday night as I just had a call from Leisure direction and they can't accomodate me after all at the dates I wanted  . The other companies that do the same campsite are coming in at nearly £400 dearer (sounds like the old joke - " when we've none in stock ours at that price as well madam " LOL ).
    Ho-hum.

    :( thats a shame

have you tried getting a quote direct with the site?

or trying another like Etangs i posted above or

International camping paris http://www.keycamp.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=campsites.resortoverview&mastercode=123&ver=2 doesnt haver a swimming pool though

Thanks for that. I have emailed the site direct and I have also looked at quotes for the etangs one you suggested. I was bowled over by the rave reviews croix was getting here and elsewhere and spent all day yesterday looking at the surrounding area etc. I can't book anything for a couple of days now as I have to wait to have my money refunded from leisure direction ( I had to pay in full ) so I will look into the other suggestions and appreciate your help ( again :). There don't seem to be many reviews on etangs on the net ( that I can find ). What made you decide to go ? Was it the proximity to Disney that did it ?

being honest yes it was,we loved La croix and will def go back one year

but Etangs being only 20 mins away is swaying it for us this year

someone on the sun holiday thread said they really liked Etangs though when they went.

and as we will only really be using it as a base for Paris and DLRP,we dont mind that it hasnt got the amenities and facilities of La Croix

The La croix site is pretty good but there is a lot of paying rides trampolines etc and to stay there is dearer than the other sites. We only stayed there maybe 4 days or 5 in order to cut the cost down and moved to another site in Picardy which was good too and actually the children still rave about because it had littl pony rides every day.

I wouldn't be too disheartened -play around with all the offers and you will probably pull off a good deal. My hobby has become booking holidays on the net -and frinds and relatives are always asking me to do it for them but they don't realise it is actually very time consuming.

Plus I think part of the problem is that the le croix site is used by people to stay afew days so you can often if you juggle about get a few days but it's hard to get your full holday there.

If you look on say the camping life site or one of the others that give you the calendar view you'll see what I mean.
