It wasn't there fault really.
I'm being weaned off the painkillers and hoping to go home tomorrow but my scar has got infected and is starting to go keloid so I need to stay here as my body won't fight infections because of the anti-rejection drugs
They said this could drag on and I might be here another month! I can't stand the idea of a month more in here. Any suggestions to make hospital stays more bearable?

((((GlasweJen)))) Hope you get to go home soon!
Just as a thought - do you have a Kindle? I always take mine to hospital with me (although my stays are considerably shorter than this stint if yours!) - it saves a fortune in things like newspapers and books. And also, it is so light - great for when a stupid paperback book is too heavy!
Hope the food is edible. Or that you have someone bring in something tasty.
And stay strong and don't try and escape! (My brother was in hospital a year or so ago - with heart trouble, but nothing like you're going through...and he made three 'escape attempts' - blames the meds for making him whoozy and confused!...He actually got as far as the carpark on one occassion before someone caught him!)
And keep posting on MSE!0 -
What do you like to do when you're not stuck in hospital?
If your concentration is OK then borrowing a Kindle or getting friends/family to bring in books to read can help pass the time. When I have long stints in hospital books, crossword puzzles and music help save me from total boredom. Or see if you can borrow a Ninetendo DS to play games on.
I don't know what your posting to MSE on but if you have a laptop with mobile broadband you could watch films, chat to friends via facebook/skype/MSN.
I hope they let you out soon, I hate being stuck in hospital especially when it's got to the stage where I'm feeling relatively well in myself but still not well enough to leave.0 -
I have an iPad, got the kindle ap but I've read so much I'm getting bored of it lol. The knitting is quite repetitive but enjoyable but again, boring! Lol
I'm a people watcher but I'm in a side room with no window and they close the door to keep everyone else's germs out so it's pretty dire.
The TV on the ward is always on rubbish channels when I venture out so that's not good.
My mum and dad take me out on a Saturday for a few hours and mums been feeding me up so it's not that bad but I don't think I can face another month of this.
I might take up a new hobby lol.
ETA I'm not allowed to charge my iPad here so I can't use it for films or tv as it drains the battery then I'm back to boredom until someone comes, charges it and gives me it back. Also I only get 1 visit a day (with the occasional smuggled one if the nice nurses are on) so people time is really limited.0 -
Sorry to hear about your situation Jen.
You may not be in the best people-watching position on the ward, but don't forget the young doctors and nurses are always up to something...in your position I would start writing a novel, the racier the better - let your imagination run riot!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
"No man is worth, crawling on the earth"- adapted from Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio
Hope is not a strategy
...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!0 -
VfM makes a good point with the novel writing. I really hope you're not in hospital for another month but why not take part in Nanowrimo?

It seems silly that you cannot charge your iPad. Have you been explicitly told this? I always just use one of the spare sockets behind my bed to charge my laptop and mobile phone when in hospital and no one has ever said anything.
You could start planning Christmas presents if you haven't already and knit everyone scarves and socks.
If there's a particular subject which interests you it may be worth looking on the Open University's Open Learn website and subscribing to one of the online courses. They're free and you work through them at your own pace.

I've just finished my msc with open uni so might look at a short course, that's a good idea.
I've been explicitly told that I can't charge my iPad but I might ask again since some of the machines have disappeared from my room.0 -

From the days when hubby was in hospital a lot and for lengthy stays, we always had to get his electrical items tested by the hospital technical department before he could use them (things that needed to be plugged in that is)....is there something similar available at the hospital you are at?
I still remember trying to watch a Casualty episode on his Game Gear with TV attachment which had been previously checked, whilst in labour...goodness knows what the episode was about but it certainly helped!
I quite like the writing a novel idea...especially a raunchy one with all the doctors and nurses around. Or do a Robin Cook and do a medical thriller......We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Aren't you allowed your own TV in your room? If not, have you looked at how much good stuff is available on the radio in the way of plays and discussions?0
