Thanks for your help. I checked the signal output it set at pal. In the av output I only have the choice between RGB & S-video. It was set at s video and when I changed it to rgb it was still black and white but looked more like sepia coloured photos (if you know what I mean). I only have one scart on the telly and the problem is the original remote control is broken and I'm using a 3 or 4 in 1. None of the buttons get me to the set up menu. I'm off to the shop now to buy another scart lead. Fingers crossed that'll work.

Is there no option to turn either of them off? (RGB and S-video). Before you buy the lead, now that you've changed the output to RGB, have another fiddle with the input selections to the TV, is there a button on the remote that changes the AV input?

Ok Sauce can't thank you enough for all your help. There's only an option to go between RGB & S-Video. Not to turn both off.

I changed the scart lead and I'm now getting colour on 3 channels although it comes and goes. Recorder is set at pal and S-Video. Turning to S-Video makes the colour go strange but with RGB the colour looks okay (when it's there). What do you think?

OK, at least we're getting somewhere! I suspect the old scart lead was a 'cut down' version. Now you have a fully wired one, hence getting colour now. I would leave your recorder on RGB - this will make everything less complicated. If the colour is fluctuating make sure the scart lead isn't loose - this is the main cause of such a problem. Check both ends, the dvd and tv. Are you just watching normal analogue terrestrial channels or do you have any set-top box freeview/Sky plugged into the other scart? If you are getting 3 channels ok how many aren't you getting?

    Hi
I've only got it connected to the tv so only have channels 1-5. 1, 3 and 5 are getting colour some of the time. 2 and 4 are always black and white. When there is colour it stays but it seems random whenever I turn it on whether I'm going to get any colour or not.

The fact that only some channels are black and white seems very odd. It sounds increasingly likely there is a fault somewhere. Try retuning the channels in - perform a reinstallation of the channels. Could be called Autoscan. If this doesn't work you may need to try it with a different tv. Can they check it out in the shop you bought it from?

Thanks for all your help ok sauce. I tried it on another telly and it does seem to be faulty. I got it from ebay although it did come with a 3 month warranty so I'll try that. Thanks
