Tell me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me like you almost wanted people to say take job 2, because you need the money and/or security it offers.

Unless you're really desperate for money I also say take job no.1. Not many of us are lucky enough to realise our dream job. I've never had a dream job but I've worked in a couple of call centres and jobs in them are 10 a penny IMO

Even if you are desperate for money, I'd say take the dream job and continue to look for something you could do for money when your 2 months is up (or fit in around the temporary job). You never know what doors may be opened by this job, and even if no doors are opened it will look better on your CV than a call centre. If you impress them they will remember you when the next vacancy comes up.

Whatever you decide, best of luck with it.

I really am undecided, but I think my family are pushing more towards job 2, as they have supported me, financially, for a very long time now. Although they haven't said anything. It is difficult to always depend on them for money as well, as they earn it not me!

A two month contract during which you would only work every two weeks doesn't seem to me to be a great catch or look especially worthwhile on your CV.
A call centre job gives you stability, an income, the opportunity to get used to the world of work and all that entails and time to look around for a permanent job in the field you want to work in.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I was first going to say take job 1 but im now leaning towards job 2 purely as its monday to friday job and it will mean you get used to working and your free to look for something more of what you wnat to do.

Either way you're going to be looking for a 'proper' job immediately so I'd take job 1 as at least you're going to enjoy doing that and it'll give you some experience and something to talk about at your next interview.

In the long term, all work experience on your CV will be good, but relevant work experience will be better in helping you move towards your ultimate goal.

Are jobs like Job 1 hard to come by? If it's a specialised field, they may not be advertised very often. Are any of them proper hours, or is this the norm when you're starting out in your chosen field? If you want to get this kind of work experience, will you need to do a job at some point with little hours and little pay? Can you afford for that to be now?

Is negotiating a late start date with Job 2 a possibility?

Finding a job is really hard these days, so well done on receiving these two offers. I am not saying getting a job in a call centre is easy, because it's not, but I am saying that call centre jobs may be advertised more often than jobs like Job 1 and that's something you need to consider if you have your heart set on a career in this area.
  • go for the dream job, without a doubt. it may lead to something else, but if it does'nt you can take a call centre job later!
ps i used to work in a call centre and it was hell on earth.

So were both of mine. There's a reason that they are amongst the easiest of jobs to find. They can be soul destroying.

Not all of them are like that of course. I know people who really enjoy their call centre jobs.

Yes they are very hard to come by, it's an extremely specialised field, on a project that I just so happened to do my dissertation for uni on (hence why I have come about being offered it). No it is not the norm, the company just need a few extra hands for the 4 weeks. However, I could use the money from the more secure job to pay for courses to gain the same experience, or continue volunteering (As I have been doing previously). But as people have said above, it would be so gutting to learn if they had offered the person who does take the job, a permanent position. Although, they have told me this would be extremely unlikely.

I have tried negotiating, they are doing another intake in a months’ time, but not after the other job would end.

Very frustrating! I know which ever decision I make will no doubt be the wrong one!

Take the call centre job and offer to do job #1 on a voluntary basis fitting round your call centre job.
